She portrays tough-as-nails Olivia Pope on ABC's hit series Scandal, but Kerry Washington played devoted daughter on Saturday night at a dinner held in her honour.

The 36-year-old actress brought her father Earl and mother Valerie as her dates to the party celebrating her October cover of Glamour magazine at Carbone in New York City.

The newlywed's husband, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, was busy preparing for opening weekend of the National Football League, but the beauty looked thrilled to be joined by her parents.

Washington dazzled in a floral, drop-waist Marchesa dress, white Brian Atwood pumps and a purple clutch.

She wore her hair in an elegant updo to show off her Finn and Monique Pean rings.

Earl, who's a real estate broker, wore a black suit with dark gray shirt, while Valerie, a professor, looked lovely in a violet dress.

The party was hosted by Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Lieve, and the Washingtons were joined by guests including: CBS This Morning co-anchor Gayle King, Parenthood star Joy Bryant and fashion designers Atwood, Tory Burch and Jason Wu.

It was a busy weekend for the fashionable TV star. She spent Friday alongside Project Runway host Heidi Klum as a guest judge for the season finale of Lifetime reality show.

Earlier on Saturday she was spotted front row for the Alexander Wang runway show at Pier 94.

Kerry graces the cover of the new issue of Glamour magazine.

Inside she muses what might be in her Scandal character's handbag, dishes on her secret wedding to Asomugha last summer and explains why she intends to keep her private life to herself.

'I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life. I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it,' she tells the magazine.

But if Scandal fans are looking for season 3 spoilers, you won't get them from Olivia's alter-ego.

Washington recently replied: 'LOL! Nice try! NO SPOILERS!' to a fan on Twitter who predicted: 'Hey! Can't believe Olivia kills the pres, runs for pres, & wins an Olympic gold medal in season 3!'

Fortunatley her fans won't have to wait long to find out what happens.

Scandal's third season debuts Oct. 3 on ABC.

Glamour isn't the only magazine the Django Unchained star will grace next month as she is also a cover girl for Flare.

In the issue, the actress assures fans it's OK to root for her character despite her affair with the president of the United States.

'There are some ways you want to be Olivia Pope and some ways you want to do a major intervention for her,' she tells the publication.

I'm glad Kerry is finally getting the recognition she deserves. She's a great actress. I've liked her from back in the day when I saw her in Save The Last Dance. I think she's gorgeous and I love Scandal.
