Dainty in lace! Hilary Swank keeps things classy in a black and olive-green dress as she steps out at Toronto gala

With her black lace and olive green dress teamed with t-bar black heels, Hilary Swank cut a classy figure as she arrived at the amFAR Inspiration gala on Sunday.

The 39-year-old Oscar winning actress managed to look both striking and demure in the knee-length dress which she paired with a simple black clutch bag and subtle make-up.

The gala was held in Toronto at the same time as the star-studded film festival.

Hilary joined fellow Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody at the event, with The Pianist star looking dapper in a black shirt, suit jacket, trousers and tie.

Mario Bello also stuck to monochrome, sporting a pretty black dress with white floral design and black shoes.

The gala, hosted by Alan Cumming, benefits the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), according to the event's website.

Earlier, Hilary had looked a lot more casual as she jetted into the Canadian airport.

Sporting leggings under a long black dress, matching ballet pumps and a long brown coat, the actress couldn't stop smiling as she made her way to her car outside the terminal. 

The star carried an oversized Gucci shopping bag and a large leather handbag with an assistant wheeling her suitcase along.

Hilary has not been seen on the big screen since appearing in the critically panned film New Year's Eve back in 2011.

She was last seen in television movie Mary and Martha which aired in the U.S. earlier this year.

Hilary and British actress Brenda Blethyn, played mothers who lose their children to malaria and begin a campaign to fight the disease.

Later this year, Hilary will return to the big screen in The Homesman, starring alongside Meryl Streep, James Spader, Miranda Otto, John Lithgow and Tommy Lee Jones, who also serves as the film's director. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, set in 1855 Nebraska, 'Follows a frontier woman and a claim jumper who ferry a wagon load of women, driven insane by the harsh world of the frontier, eastward to Iowa and back to the civilised world.'

How can you say she looks dainty, she's an amazon. Also, she has no colour sense, brown coat, black trousers & shoes and a blue bag. Who dresses her?
