LEED For Homes

LEED-certified home is designed and constructed in accordance with the rigorous guidelines of the LEED for Homes green building certification program. LEED for Homes is a consensus-developed, third party-verified, voluntary rating system which promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has developed a LEED for Homes Rating System. The following shows the credit categories and a brief summary of their intent:

Innovation and Design Process (ID)

•Encourages project planning and design to improve the coordination and integration of the various elements in a green home. Early assessment of long-term durability risks to minimize future failures.

Locations and Linkages (LL)

•Minimize the environmental impact of development practices by avoiding environmentally sensitive sites and encouraging the building of LEED homes near or within existing communities.

Sustainable Sites(SS)

•Minimize long term environmental damage during the building process, along with adding landscape features that minimize demand for water and chemicals and minimize erosion and runoff from the home site.

Water Efficiency (WE)

•Minimize the demand for outdoor and indoor water through water-efficient irrigation, fixtures, and fittings.

Energy and Atmosphere (EA)

•Improve the overall energy performance of the home by minimizing heat transfer and energy consumption.

Materials and Resources (MR)

•Optimize the use of framing material, increase demand for environmentally preferable products, and reduce waste generation.

Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ)

•Improve the overall quality of the home’s environment by controlling the indoor moisture level, reducing indoor pollutants, reducing particulate matter, and improving thermal comfort and energy performance.

Awareness and Education (AE)

•Maintain the performance of the home by educating the occupants about the operations and maintenance of the home’s LEED features.
