Ryan Lochte's reality TV show is cancelled after just ONE season
|
His reality TV show asks What Would Ryan Lochte Do? but now the swimming champion has to answer the tough question as his E! reality show has been cancelled after one season.
The sportsman dazzled at the London Olympics last year and was offered the six-episode TV spot by the American TV network in April this year.
However, high hopes for the 28-year-old's show plummeted as his TV charm only managed to bring in a mediocre 807,000 viewers for the first episode in May, before sinking even further to 300,000 by the finale.
Back to the diving board: Ryan Lochte's TV career has plummeted after E! cancelled his reality show What would Ryan Lochte DO?
The
unscripted show showed Ryan
training for the 2016 Rio Olympics and going on dates with the likes of
Carmen Electra.
Earlier this year, Ryan said that filming the show was threatening his swimming career by making it difficult to do the sort of training he needs to be consistent in the pool.
He was supposed be practising nine times a week, but rarely made it more than four or five sessions.
'I didn't realise they were going to be pulling me in different directions all the time,' Ryan said.
TV dates: The reality showed the Olympic-champion's look for love as he went on dates with the likes of Carmen Electra
Not interested: The show only managed to attracted 807,000 viewers for the first episode which plummeted to 300,000 by the season's finale
The eleven-time Olympic medalist also added, 'I'm stronger than I've ever been outside the pool. But in the pool, I haven't been able to train on a consistent basis.'
Ryan's TV career could be resurrected in the future as a source close to E! says the network does want to work with the athlete and personality again in the future.
On the show's finale in May, Lochte admitted he had his eyes set on creating a great life for himself in LA.
Sink or swim: Earlier this year the-28-year-old said filming for the reality show was interfering with his rigid training schedule
'I see me being a designer, I see me being a model, I see me being a TV star. I see everything out there," he told his family.'
With the camera's no longer rolling he ultimately decided to stay in his hometown in Florida, to focus on his swimming.
The five-time gold champion doesn't seem to be feeling sorry for himself and tweeted a motivational sports quote on Thursday evening: 'If I die at least I'll die happy doing what I want to do in life. -Terry Fox'.
