Trying to start a trend? Sarah Jessica Parker rolls up one trouser leg as she tries out hip hop style in New York

As Sex And The City's Carrie Bradshaw she helped a generation find its sense of style.

But whether Sarah Jessica Parker's latest look will catch on is debatable.

The actress stepped out with the left leg of her jeans rolled up to just below the knee on Tuesday.

The unusual look came as she took a stroll in New York City's Soho neighborhood with her husband Matthew Broderick - who did not follow suit.

It looked as if the star attempted to make sense of her interesting style, tucking her blue shirt into the drawstring trousers, but to no avail.

Made popular by LL Cool J, the one-legged style is sometimes seen amongst black gang members and hip hop fans in the US.

According to urban legend it's supposed to be symbolic of losing the shackles that their slave ancestors had to wear.

In Britain, it's become a trend amongst hoodies to show that they have no police ankle tag, presumable because they are so tough that they are always getting stopped by the police.

Matthew, with his arm still in a sling from shoulder surgery, wore an orange baseball cap, a sweatshirt, grey T-shirt and blue jeans.

Once in the sunshine, Sarah and Matthew warmed up, flashing a couple of smiles as they walked.

The sun was so warm that Sarah removed her scarf and carried it.

Her four-year-old twin daughters Marion and Tabitha were spotted with Sarah later on Tuesday and they appeared to have inherited their mother's fashion sense.

Both girls wore cute white dresses with short jackets and flats.

Despite Sarah's bizarre leg up fashion decision, she still proved that she has what it takes to be a fashion trendsetter during the 2013 New York City Ballet Fall Gala.

Sarah, who is a member of the NYC Ballet Board, walked the red carpet last Thursday looking graceful in a stunning custom dress designed by Prabal Gurung and Oliver Theyskens.

I don't know who is more stupid, the DM or some of the commentators. She clearly intended both her trouser legs to be rolled up but for a small amount of time (while some idiots took pictures) one leg rolled down! It's happened to me plenty of times. Same with shirt sleeves, it's not some fashion "choice".

Or maybe she's planning on bicycling.

She could have been riding a bike right before this photo was taken. As you can see in the later photos, both pant legs are rolled up...

What next, is she going to start wearing her trousers half way down her bottom and say "innit" ?

Nothing says hip hop like a middle-aged woman who lives in Soho.

I don't know why, but I can't stand her. I actually really like Sex and the City, but not because of her. She is just too phony.
