Environmental Specialist III OPS

The Office of Watershed Services is accepting applications for a full-time OPS Environmental Specialist III position.
Summary of Duties:
The duties of this position include photo interpretation of the most current available aerial imagery in a systematic method such that the entire Land Use Land cover data layer for the water management district is reviewed and updated in a timely manner, to be determined.
The review will consist of viewing the aerial imagery and making an informed determination of the Land Use Land Cover (LULC) in each area based on the Photo Interpretation Key. This position will create, update and edit the corresponding LULC geographic boundaries of each category of LULC as needed.
This position will maintain a geodatabase containing the updates as work progresses, edge matching boundaries between Northwest Florida Water Management District and Suwannee River Water Management District as appropriate.
This position requires same day travel around the Water Management Districts for field verification tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Essential):
- 1. Photo Interpretation expertise
- 2. ESRI ArcMap skills and experience (2 yr + preferred)
- 3. Ability to focus on imagery for long periods of time
- 4. Experience and practical application of FDOTs Florida Land use, cover and forms classification system
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Preferred):
- 5. Expert knowledge and 2+ years experience with FDOTs Florida Land Use, cover and forms classification system.
Position Requirements:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college in Physical or Natural Sciences and experience with analyzing natural resource GIS data.
Position location: Bob Martinez Center, 2600 Blair Stone Road, Tallahassee, Florida
Hourly amount – $21.31
