Nicola Roberts went all out for her 28th birthday, spending the day with her closest friends in the debauched city of Amsterdam.

And it looks as though best friend Cheryl Cole had taken a few candid snaps of their trip, sharing the photographic evidence with the birthday girl as they arrived back in the UK on Sunday.

Putting her camera phone up for Nicola to see, it seemed that Cheryl was more than happy with the memories she had saved from their dalliance in the Dutch capital.

The singer was seen getting her toe sucked by a mask-wearing performer during a night out in one of the Dutch city's infamous adult clubs in a picture posted on Instagram by her Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh.

Sharing the picture, Kimberley wrote: 'Only in Amsterdam! #toesuckage #happybirthdayginge.'

Cheryl Cole then shared the same image on her own Instagram page.

In the shot, a giggly Nicola is seen with her hand up to her mouth as the performer goes to town on her tootsies.

Clearly concerned that the performer would next turn her attention to her, Cheryl later tweeted several more pictures of the mask-clad woman, writing: 'HELPppppp!!!!'

But the incident was clearly taken in good spirits by all involved, as the girls later posted a picture of themselves celebrating the occasion on Instagram.

Cheryl is seen wearing a sexy black outfit while Kimberley opted for a skin-baring Henry Holland two-piece ensemble as they posed alongside Nicola's younger sister Frankie.

The group had a somewhat eventful start to the trip on Friday, when Cheryl and Nicola ended up missing their flight by an hour.

During their wait in the BA lounge, Cheryl quickly dispelled any rumours of confrontation with airport staff that were circulating on Twitter, and tweeted: 'Reading your tweets and me and Nic are ��!! Once again Nicola does the crime Cheryl does the time ! #somethingsneverchange.'

And the pair were more than happy to wait for the next flight, with Kimberley joining them on Saturday.

The Netherlands is really full of beauty.. that is why I (UK) and husband(Australian) who are living in Ireland (hate it - backward) are moving to The Hague, Netherlands. Until you visit you have NO idea. Yes, Amsterdam is amazing and open in every way.

I think keep the English away from the Netherlands.. then some of us will want to settle there - this is a silly story, along with the story about Miley Cyrus last week coming to Amsterdam. Just keep away from this beautiful place.

Amsterdam is not a debauched city - it is a city of immense culture surrounded by beautiful people. It is only the tourists who degrade the openness of Amsterdam and come here to feed into the stereotype. By the way I am English.

Look at what goes on in the city streets at night in Britain (Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway too for that matter). They make Amsterdam look like Lourdes or Fatima.
