She may be playing a queen in a new television series for the E! network, but Elizabeth Hurley looked less than regal as she perched on a step while filming scenes on Thursday.

Viewers have been given their first look at The Royals, an hour long drama following a fictional blue-blooded family who are corrupted by power and wealth.

The 48-year-old stars as Queen Helena who is described as a ‘couture-clad vixen dripping in diamonds’.

The actress was lacking a red-velvet throne as she filmed what appeared to be a funeral scene for the pilot in London alongside a large cast.

Wearing an elaborate fascinator in her hair, the mother-of-one was decked out in a simple black outfit.

Carrying a vintage-style handbag, Liz wore a knee-length black coat and heeled court shoes, while her make-up and hair looked immaculate.

She is later seen warming up in a large think coat and fluffy robe as she takes time out in between scenes.

Liz Hurley is a pretty lady. But she can't act for toffee. All of her films have bombed; and she was essentially booted out of Hollywood because her track record was so bad. Oh, and because she refused to join in a studio strike that happened while she was there. That didn't make her popular and back she came to dear Old Blighty - tail firmly between those beautiful legs.

Like Hugh, her acting is very wooden, but she looks good on screen.
