Lauren Silverman looked troubled and anxious as she ventured out for the first time since pictures emerged of Simon Cowell celebrating his birthday with an ex-girlfriend.

The 36-year-old chatted intently into her mobile phone during a shopping trip in the city on Wednesday, but appeared to be in a pensive mood after initially emerging from the rear of a black Land Rover in downtown Manhattan.

Ms. Silverman is expecting her first child with Cowell in February, but while the music mogul was nowhere in sight her baby bump was clearly visible beneath her loose-fitting blue shirt.

Her outfit was given a trendy twist courtesy of a smart leather jacket and grey snood, while the overall look was completed with a pair of black leggings and knee length boots.

Despite the obvious effort put into her wardrobe, Ms. Silverman had made the rare decision to step out without make-up – revealing a drawn, pallid complexion in the process.

The mother-of-one was making an appearance in New York just days after boyfriend Cowell turned in one of his own on the other side of the country.

Indeed, the X Factor judge was spotted celebrating his 54th birthday at popular Los Angeles restaurant Sur on Monday evening in the company of old flame Terri Seymour.

Cowell’s unique ability to maintain close relationships with old girlfriends is well documented, but the multi-millionaire was in no mood to be recognised as he was sped away later that night.

His uncharacteristic shyness may well have had something to do with Extra correspondent Ms. Seymour, whose bottom was cosily parked on his lap.

The pair appeared to be in high spirits as they giggled together while a blonde woman slid into the seat beside them.

Cowell’s relationship with Ms. Silverman became public knowledge after it emerged she had fallen pregnant with his child.

She is also a parent to seven-year-old son Adam from her marriage to Andrew Silverman.

Simon can be a good father but doesn't need to marry Lauren, it is not necessary. I am not impressed with Lauren. Lauren hasn¿t got any dignity. Hm¿ married and adult women would protect herself from getting pregnant unless¿She has just had a quick divorce for cheating on her husband. She wasn¿t happy in her marriage? She could leave her husband earlier. It seems to be that the photos are set up so people see an image of a ¿happy and honest¿ couple?! What does Lauren¿s son feels when he is seeing the photos of his mother putting her legs around Simon and excessively kissing her lover in public? Well, Simon is as he is and has been a single man for a long time, Lauren knewabout it. His friends have got rights to be upset about lauren, they are human beings.
