Lauren Conrad and new fiancé William Tell certainly had something to celebrate as they stocked up on supplies including lots of alcoholic beverages at the supermarket the day they announced their engagement to the world.

The 27-year-old designer and her law student beau made a low-key trip to Pavilions in West Hollywood on Sunday, filling their shopping trolley up with plenty of wine and cases of beer and apple cider in preparation for a possible party.

The only indication of the couple's new relationship status came in the form of the huge platinum sparkler that took pride of place on the former The Hills star's ring finger as she paid for the goodies at the cash register.

On Sunday, the pretty blonde announced the happy news that she is set to wed her boyfriend of nearly two years to fans via her various social media accounts along with a photo of the impressive bauble.

'I am very excited to share with you guys that William and I got engaged over the weekend.
I am beyond thrilled!,' she wrote on her official website.

'Get ready for lots more wedding content here on LaurenConrad.com as we begin the planning process.'

Lauren later thanked well-wishers for their kind words, writing, 'William and I are overwhelmed by all of your warm wishes. Thank you so much for sharing in this special moment :-) XO Lauren.'

'Thank you guys for all the sweet messages! It means so much to me :-) Feel like the luckiest girl in the world!' she also tweeted her more than three million followers.

While fans of the reality TV star and author were thrilled at the news, it seems they're not the only ones.

Former The Hills co-star Spencer Pratt has also come out with his congratulations.

The 30-year-old, who married Lauren's one-time best friend, Heidi Montag, on the show back in April 2009, surprised everyone by revealing his happiness for his former nemesis.

He tells Life & Style: 'After all we’ve been through, Heidi and I both feel very sincerely that Lauren deserves to find happiness. We wish her all the best.'

The pair endured a contentious relationship, with LC disapproving of her bestie's romance with controlling Spencer and subsequently dissolving their friendship over it.

Though according to Spencer, that's ancient history now.

'There’s been so much water under the bridge since The Hills. The hatchets have been buried. Axes ground to nubs,' he says. 'We’re happy to see Lauren finding a lasting love relationship because honestly, marriage is the best thing that ever happened to us. When people find that right person, it’s something to celebrate.'
