Their controversial relationship has been thrust under the spotlight yet again in recent weeks after revelations from Woody Allen's ex-partner Mia Farrow.

But Woody and his wife Soon-Yi seemed remarkably unflustered as they emerged arm in arm together in New York City on Monday.

There was a hint of a smile on the 77-year-old director's face while his wife looked happy and relaxed as they enjoyed a stroll around the city.

Wearing his favourite beige floppy hat, a sweater and blue shirt the Annie Hall director was dressed casually while his wife Soon-Yi wore black jeans and a patterned hoodie.

The director and his wife's appearance came after he was forced to respond to Mia's recent claim in Vanity Fair that Frank Sinatra, not Woody, is the father of her 25-year-old son, Ronan Farrow.

A representative for the Oscar-winner told The Associated Press earlier this month that: 'The article is so fictitious and extravagantly absurd that he is not going to comment.'

Frank's 85-year-old widow Barbara has also branded Mia's claims a 'bunch of junk.'

Ronan, a journalist and lawyer, joked about his mother's claims on Twitter, writing: 'Listen, we're all *possibly* Frank Sinatra's son.'

Mia, now 68, married Frank in 1966 in Las Vegas when she was 21 and he was 50. The marriage fell apart 18 months later.

She told Vanity Fair that he was the great love of her life and their relationship never really ended.

Woody, 77, began a relationship with Mia around 1980, although the two never lived together.

They separated in 1992 over his affair with 22-year-old Soon-Yi, Mia's adopted daughter with ex-husband, conductor Andre Previn.

In spite of the drama, Soon-Yi and Allen stayed together, eventually marrying in 1997.

The couple have since adopted two children named Bechet and Manzie Tio, their names paying homage to two jazz musicians.

'The heart wants what it wants. There's no logic to those things,' Allen has said.
