Looks like there may be the pitter-patter of little feet around the DeGeneres/de Rossi mansion very soon.

Well, the pitter-patter of four little paws at least.

Ellen and Portia fell in love on Sunday with a dog at the Saving SPOT! event at Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

While the happily married pair have ruled out having children, by the looks of their faces there may be a new fur child on the horizon instead.

The 55-year-old talk show host is an unabashed animal lover and at the event on Sunday could not keep her hands off the tiny little black puppy.

With her actress wife looking on, Ellen gave the puppy a big hug and let everyone around her know how adorable she thought the dog was.

The pair were at the annual event to support dog rescue agency Saving SPOT! that helps find homes for at risk dogs in Los Angeles' high kill shelters.

Ellen is a huge supporter of the organisation, and regularly posts the dogs they have for adoption on her website to try to find them homes amongst her millions of followers

Joining the doggy loving couple at the event, was Octavia Spencer, Aaron Sorkin, Jessica Szohr, Allison Janney, and Cristin Milioti.

Amy Smart - who donned a leopard print knitted cardigan - also found herself not one, but two, new four-legged friends to snuggle.

Looking stylish as always Jessica Szhor almost manged to distract attention away for the dogs, in a pair of bright printed pants and a statement making suede motorcycle jacket.

The Gossip girl star joined How I Met Your Mother actress Cristin Milioti for a little puppy time as well.

I love how much Ellen and Portia advocate for the rights of animals and pets and Ellen is a huge promoter of animals being rescued instead of being bought from breeders! Every pet deserves a good loving home!
