Who better to dress the Queen of Belgium than the Queen of Belgian chic, Veronique Branquinho?

Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who took the crown in July after her husband Prince Philippe became King, stepped out over the weekend to visit the city of Liege in her usual off-kilter elegance.

Wearing a bright yellow angora coat from Veronique Branquinho's fall 2013 collection, the 40-year-old turned heads in a matching skirt and camel accessories as she mingled with the public on Saturday.

When it comes to her style, Queen Mathilde, who married her husband in 1999 wearing a long sleeved winter-coat-style wedding gown with an oversize collar by Belgian designer Edouard Vermeulen of Natan, has never shied away from taking risks.

The Queen often favors shorter hemlines that sit just above the knee, and similar to that of Kate Middleton, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Princess Letizia of Spain, she integrates playful patterns and bright colors while maintaining a classic and polished look in classic dresses and tailored coats.

She has also demonstrated an overwhelming passion architectural hats and decadent jewels, and made 2008's Vanity Fair international best-dressed list, which ranked her alongside Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama.

While her style may not yet be internationally celebrated, Queen Mathilde's eye for stand-out ready-to-wear pieces never fail to capture Belgium's eye, giving the Duchess of Cambridge some well-deserved competition.

The new Queen often favors Natan for many official and unofficial events, and the moment King Arthur, 79, handed the thrown over to Phillipe was no exception.

For the religious ceremony, the designer created a fitted cream knee length dress with a folded neckline and a low back. Queen Mathilde accessorized her outfit with cream gloves, a neutral clutch and matching heels. Her hat was by Fabienne Delvigne.

Her follow-up Natan outfits were just as stylish, as she went from a colorfully printed fitted dress with asymmetrical folds while attending the park celebrations, to a grey silk shift with a navy floral pattern.

glad to see her wearing something different ; her signature Natan dresses are beautiful but a bit boring. This Branquinho coat looks amazing. Maybe some Dries van Noten next time ?

King Philippe's father is called Albert, not Arthur (pic #5 caption). And Mathilde did not 'take the crown' her husband did (although there was no actual crowning ceremony). What kind of ignorant people do you have as writers DM?

The coat doesn't look too comfy or manageable esp for this type of money. She looks nice but older than 40. Rather pretty close to hubby's age.

Love Mathilde! Phillipe was one very lucky man to win her over ~ and he'd be the first to agree.

Wow, I had almost forgotten she was the Queen already. Hmmm...when it comes to picking flattering clothes, she's not Maxima...The coat reminds me of big bird.

"King Arthur, 79, handed the thrown over to Phillipe".....Really DM? It was King Albert II and its also throne. Not Arthur and not thrown.

The cut of the coat is not flattering for her. She has a nice figure, but it's all lost in that sea of fabric.

She is very stylish, however I think the "midi" hem length will suit her much better: a shorter hem draws attention to her problem area, i.e. her knees.

What on earth is wrong with her knees? She's perfectly lovely, very styish and (pay attention here, DM) - chic.
