Before his sex symbol days! Robin Thicke reveals he was once a long haired hippie as he shares flashback snaps with Oprah

Since his hit single Blurred Lines some might say he has become a sex symbol, but prior to that Robin Thicke went through various phases in his appearance.

And the singer is clearly not one to shy away from his past as he shared a number of nostalgic - and sometimes embarrassing - photos from years gone by for his interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday night.

The 36-year-old revealed that he was not always so well groomed as he provided various flashbacks to a time before he dominated the charts.

After discussing his now notorious performance with Miley Cyrus on the VMAs, the crooner delved into his past with some photographs documenting both his music career and relationship with wife Paula Patton.

Robin shared a montage of himself sporting long hair and a scruffy beard from his 2002 music video When I Get You Alone.

Looking almost unrecognisable, Robin gallivants around New York City riding a mountain bike in the video.

His long hair is a mess of tangles and he looks closer to a grunge rocker than a smooth song and dance man.

From the same hippie inspired period, the chart topping songwriter also showcased a snap of himself hugging his wife Paula.

In the adoring photo Robin's brunette locks are almost as long as his then girlfriend's curly tresses.

And in another memento the controversial star can be seen sporting a more glam rock 'do as he sings with a similarly clad back up band.

In the still, Thicke has some very serious bangs to contend with - a far cry from his current close cropped style.

But the sweetest images of all were those from his 2005 wedding to Paula.

The pair began dating in high school, when Robin was just a boy of 16.

In the wedding photos the pair, who have a three-year-old son named Julian Fuego, are the picture of happiness, as both flash flush faced grins.

And last but not least was a boyhood snap from Robin's childhood, where his inherent good looks were already near full bloom.

Meanwhile, Oprah got Robin all tongue tied during the same interview when she grilled him about dancing suggestively with 20-year-old Miley.

'You didn't think of it as sexual?' the 59-year-old media mogul probed.

'Well, I was on stage, I didn’t see it, you know,' Robin, responded.

'So to me, I’m walking out towards Miley, I’m not thinking "sex," I’m thinking "fun," the Blurred Lines singer explained.

Curious how that could even be possible, Oprah - who physically displayed her distaste for the situation - interrupted, 'But she was twerking up against your kahoonas.'
