'There's a bit of a dispute!' Chris Hemsworth admits he and wife Elsa Pataky can't remember exactly when they got married

They only tied the knot in 2010 but Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have already forgotten their wedding date.

The couple invited a group of friends and family on holiday to the island of Sumba in Indonesia, around Christmas 2010 for their nuptials and they enjoyed such a fun few weeks, Chris is unsure of exactly when the wedding took place.

Speaking in the November issue of Details magazine, he said: ‘Uh, I should know the answer to this. There’s a bit of a dispute...So yeah, the answer about the date of my wedding: somewhere in December.’

While Elsa gave Chris a ring with a date engraved on it, he believes the ceremony actually took place a few days later.

Chris, 30, also revealed fears that work would dry up made him try to keep busy over the last few years but he is finally ready to take some time off to spend with Elsa and their daughter India Rose.

‘There’s a brief payout, and then the bar shifts again,’ he said.  ‘I think that’s human nature. It keeps you moving forward, but it needs to be tempered a bit, too. I’ve been working solidly for a couple of years now, to the point where I have to slow down and spend some time with my family.

‘The biggest thing is, you worry about being boring.  No, no, no.  The fear is: “Why did it happen so quickly?” Then you go, “What’s the catch?” Or, “Am I gonna be found out? Am I any good?” The preparation is something I do obsessively, because the fear of being caught out is the worst for me.

‘You spend so long having your hand up, saying, ‘C’mon, c’mon—pick me!’ there’s a fear of saying no to things. It’s bred into you. I get shit sent to me and I think, ‘I should probably just take this.’ But now I try to say, ‘Hold on—do you even like it?’ I do have a little control now. That’s the transition—I’m not at the mercy of someone else so much. And that is just as scary as it is liberating.’

Chris’ brothers Luke, 32 and Liam, 23 are both actors and while he insists they are not competitive, Hemsworth told Details that he thinks being the middle child has made him more determined to succeed.

‘My dad talks about the times when we’d play backyard cricket’, he said: ‘If I got bowled out, I’d just refuse to let go of the bat and swing it at anyone who tried to take it away from me.  I like to think that’s been tempered a bit over the years.’

However, he does admit that actors are narcissistic, explaining, ‘No other job forces you to think about yourself this much. That’s a scary thing, because before you know it, it’s all pointed inward. You’re taught to think, “Okay, what do I want out of this scene? How am I feeling here?” Then it’s like, “Awww, f**k off, I.” You start to hate I!’

While Chris’ Hollywood success has been rapid, he insists he has put in years of work, beginning his career on Australian soap opera Home and Away.
‘I’ve worked my a** off over the years,’ he insisted, ‘but I can’t help but see that, relatively speaking, it all has been rather quick.

‘Three and a half years playing the same character [on Home and Away] can be sort of mind-numbing.  My character was in a fire, a cyclone, a helicopter crash, a plane crash. I was hoping for a big, dramatic death.’

Chris is best known for playing the god of Thunder, Thor in the Marvel comics but in his recent movie Rush and upcoming flick Cyber, he was delighted to try out something new.

‘[In Rush] it was incredibly satisfying to be on a much more intimate set, focused on the truth of a scene, as opposed to ‘Now swing on a wire and smash the bad guy with your ax.  The fear, the newness, is what keeps you on your game.

‘[For Cyber] I did two months of computer lessons before we started shooting.  This computer teacher with a Ph.D. from UCLA would come into this little room and give me lessons in Unix commands and whatnot. It was exciting the first day or two, then I was like, ‘Oh no, this is why I didn’t take a desk job.’ Drank more coffee than I’d ever had in my life, because it was literally putting me to sleep.’

‘I learned to type…I can’t say I can hack into your Swiss bank account, but I can pretend to. There’s an intelligence to this character that’s certainly beyond my intelligence and some of the characters I’ve played before. They can make me smarter in the editing.’

Don't they have pictures or friends that attended the wedding to ask for the correct date?
