The suspected teenage shoplifter found with a dead fetus in a plastic bag while allegedly stealing lingerie at Victoria's Secret has been named.
The 17-year-old, who has a two-year-old son, was taken to hospital after a security guard discovered the fetus of a boy when he searched her bags in Manhattan at about 1.30pm today.
The teenager, named as Tiona Rodriguez, told police she had a miscarriage the day before and had put the remains in her bag because she didn't know what to do.
Arrested: A fetus was found in Tiona Rodriguez's shopping bag by a Victoria's Secret security guard who suspected the teenager of shoplifting
Teen mom: Tiona, who has a two-year-old son, told police she had a miscarriage the day before
A police source told the Daily News Tiona had been about six and a half months pregnant when she miscarried.
'She said she didn't know what to do,' the source said.
On her Facebook page late on Wednesday night, the teenager had complained about period cramps.
After the security guard discovered the fetus, wrapped in a clothes and a black bag, and allegedly with items stolen from Victoria's Secret on top, the 17-year-old from Brooklyn was taken to hospital.
A few hours later the fetus was removed by Medical Examiner's Office workers, who also removed other bags of potential evidence.
Health problems: Tiona had complained of period pains the day before she was stopped in Victoria's Secret
Surprise: Neighbors of Tiona, pictured left on October 15, said they had no idea she was pregnant
Charges: The 17-year-old has been charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to see if the fetus had been alive when he was born.
One of Tiona's neighbors said she was shocked to hear the teenager had been pregnant.
Zami Ford, 17, said: 'I’ve known her since she was little. She was probably nervous and didn't know what to do. She would never hurt anyone.'
Another neighbor, Lydia Perez, said: 'She had to have hidden that pregnancy for a while. I saw her outside here the other day with her family, and her baby. There was a whole bunch of joy. You would never know there were any problems.'
Tiona and a friend, Francis Estevez, who was also stopped on suspicion of shoplifting at the store, have been charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Shocking discovery: A police officer outside the Victoria's Secret branch where a fetus was found in a bag
Customers at Victoria’s Secret were shocked to hear that a fetus was found in the store, but most sympathized with the schoolgirl.
'She must be going through a big depression. She must have been wondering how she was going to get rid of it,' Yvonne Sonera told the Daily News.
Police have searched the teenager's bedroom for evidence of the miscarriage.

Holy crap this story must be hugely embarassing for her. First she didn't know what to do with the fetus and then she shoplifted, but now the entire world knows about it. Her name is up everywhere and she's only 17, yet people posted rude comments. Grow up people, just because you're anonymous doesn't mean your harmless and that she won't come across this article one day. She's not even an adult yet, her brain is not fully developed, and she already has enough pressure in her life. Read the last three paragraphs.
