My, how you have aged! Tilda Swinton is unrecognisable after getting grey hair and wrinkles for highly anticipated The Grand Budapest Hotel
|
You never know what to expect from seminal director Wes Anderson.
While his highly stylized aesthetics may stay the same, his films always managed to shock, and the highly anticipated first trailer for The Grand Budapest Hotel is no different.
The director always requires his very famous Hollywood stars to transform into characters out of their comfort zone and on Thursday, as the trailer took the internet by storm, it was clear he had done it again - this time with Tilda Swinton.

Tilda is that you? Tilda Swinton is turned into Madame D. a wealthy old widow who is closer to a 100 than she is Tilda's real age for Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel
Even the Oscar winner's biggest fans would have had to do a double take to spot the actress in the two and a half minute long epic trailer.
Known for her age defying looks, the 52-year-old was transformed into Madame D. a wealthy old widow who is closer to a 100 than she is Tilda's real age.
Tilda left her usual androgynous appearance at the door to play the woman, who would have required her to be in the makeup chair for hours a day.
Tragically different: The grand Madame, who is murdered in the film, sports numerous age spots, wrinkles and a very saggy neck matched only in size by the old woman's large grey crimped beehive
The old young you: Tilda, seen here in France last month, left her usual androgynous appearance at the door to play the woman, who would have required her to be in the makeup chair for hours a day
Instead of the porcelain skin of the star, the grand Madame sports numerous age spots, wrinkles and a very saggy neck matched only in size by the old woman's large grey crimped beehive.
But alas Madame D. does not have long on this earth after she is romance by Ralph Fiennes' character the much-loved concierge of the Grand Budapest, Gustave H.
When Madame D. is found murdered, the concierge becomes the prime suspect as he inherits a pricey painting.
Still finds love: Tilda's Madame D. is romanced by Ralph Fiennes' character the much-loved concierge of the Grand Budapest, Gustave H. (Centre)
Unnatural end: When Madame D. is found murdered, the concierge becomes the prime suspect as he inherits a pricey painting
Quirkily, the hotel worker attends his late lover's funeral - allowing viewers to get another look at aged Tilda, who now lies dead in an open casket.
Ralph's character praises the older woman: 'You're looking so well darling, you really are. I don't know what sort of cream they out on you down at the morgue but I want some.'
While Ralph is known for his own way for the ladies, his character's is known for his womanizer ways with the elderly ladies.
I can explain? Ralph's character and his protege lobby boy Zero Moustafa, played by Tony Revolori, go on the run from the law and hilarity ensues
Elderly ladies' man: In one scene Ralph receives a naked bubble bath from one of his grey haired loves, whom he describes as a 'dynamite in the sack'
Welcome to Wes' family: It is Tony Revolori's first time in a Wes Anderson film
In one scene Ralph even receives a naked bubble bath from one of his grey haired loves, whom he describes as a 'dynamite in the sack' to his protege lobby boy Zero Moustafa, played by Tony Revolori, a newcomer to Wes Anderson films.
The horrified young lobby exclaims: She was 84!'
Not missing a beat the esteemed concierge says: 'Ive had older.'
A love story: The young protege's life is the second part of the Grand Budapest film as he falls in love with fellow hotel worker Agatha, played by Saoirse Ronan
Bad boys: Teaming up as the villains is Adrien Brody, who plays Madam D.'s son who is, of course, less than impressed he was not left the famous painting, and Willem Dafoe, as the scorned son's hired heavy
The young protege's life is the second story of the Grand Budapest film as he falls in love with fellow hotel worker Agatha, played by Saoirse Ronan.
For the role, the 19-year-old sports a large birth mark or scar in her face, which is not explained in the trailer.
Not due out till March next year, the film which follows the highly successful Moonrise Kingdom and features numerous Wes Anderson favourites.
Welcome back: Wes Anderson favourite Edward Norton returns
Wouldn't miss it: Bill Murray also joins Anderson again, the star has featured in all but one of the director's films
Teaming up as the villains is Adrien Brody, who plays Madam D.'s son who is, of course, less than impressed he was not left the famous painting, and Willem Dafoe, as the scorned son's hired heavy.
Moonrise Kingdon stars Edward Norton, Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray also return.
As does Wes' partner in crime Owen Wilson along with Jeff Goldblum and, making his Anderson debut, Jude Law.
