WoW Insider has the latest on the Mists of Pandaria!

Latest round of Connected Realms coming Monday

Latest round of Connected Realms coming Tuesday
The latest sizable batch of realms slated for the Connected Realms feature will be going under maintenance on Monday, October 21 from 5:00 a.m. PDT until approximately 11:00 a.m. PDT, according to the official thread on the feature. Community Manager Bashiok also added that once these realms return from maintenance, the realm connections should be complete. The realms scheduled for this round of connection are as follows.
  • Balnazzar and Warsong
  • Gurubashi and Aegwynn
  • Dalvengyr and Dark Iron
  • Garithos and Chromaggus
  • Onyxia and Burning Blade
  • Maiev and Bloodscalp/Boulderfist
If you happen to be calling any of these realms home, be prepared for a brief bout of maintenance come Monday. However, Tuesday's regular maintenance should simply be a set of rolling restarts for everyone, so realms that are in the process of being connected should be hit with double downtime. This seems to be a pretty quick turnaround -- will we be seeing more realm connection announcements next week? For more information and updates on the process, keep an eye on the official forum thread.

WoW Moviewatch: Prince Kael'thas Sing-Along

In the grand tradition of Dr. Horrible, a group of Hungarian players created the Prince Kael'thas Sing-Along. Everyone's favorite it's-just-a-setback elf takes to song and silliness to express his very deepest feelings. The video is packed full of references and story, so it's well worth the time. Some of the language might feel a little stilted, but that's because none of the creators were native speakers. Considering that fact (which they point out themselves), this video is just amazing.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: AoE vs. Single Target

The Care and Feeding of Warriors AoE vs Single Target

Every week, WoW Insider brings you The Care and Feeding of Warriors, the column dedicated to arms, fury and protection warriors. Despite repeated blows to the head from dragons, demons, Old Gods and whatever that thing over there was, Matthew Rossi will be your host.

I've done some tanking in flex, and I even decided to tank in LFR after doing a fun Sha of Pride kill as arms, which turned out to be less fun due mostly to my own impatience (and a fair degree of rust on my tanking skills). Still, I felt like prot was working fairly well - it still lacks the old Cataclysm feeling of mobility, but damage is up and the two piece protection set bonus is nice.

What really happened while I was tanking, though, was that I started to think about all the AoE we hurl around as warriors. Both protection and arms are tossing Deep Wounds around like candy - Deep Wounds is so much of my AoE DPS it can get ridiculous on certain fights. I can put out enough damage on the opening pull of General Nazgrim that I can basically coast for the rest of the fight and still place in the top five. As a tank, I have yet to be able to convince myself not to take Shockwave - being able to hit a cone of mobs in front of me every 20 seconds is just so convenient.

I find myself wondering if the past year of World of Warcraft has just conditioned me to think of the class as an AoE class.

The Queue: Furious refutations

The Queue Furious refutations
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Today we'll talk about planets, dimensions, and expansions.

tomfromhr asked:

Okay, so bit of a timeline/lore question. As I understand it, we shut the original Dark Portal in WCII, right? And in doing so we trapped a sizeable force of Alliance (and Horde?) guys on the other side? Was this when Alleria and Turalyon ran through a portal? And did a Horde force run through that portal too?

Is there a good book to read up on this particular moment in Warcraft history?

And what were the Alliance/Horde forces doing while the DP was closed?

Alleria and Turalyon were part of a larger group known as the Alliance Expedition, which was sent out on a mission to get the Book of Medivh back from Ner'zhul and stop him from opening portals to worlds besides Azeroth. The group also included Khadgar, Danath Trollbane, Kurdran Wildhammer, and others. By the time they actually tracked down Ner'zhul he had already learned all he needed to know to lay siege to other worlds, so they made the tough decision to destroy the Draenor-side Dark Portal, sealing Draenor (now Outland) off from the rest of the universe. The remaining Horde forces either splintered into their old clans or joined up with Kargath Bladefist at Hellfire Citadel. The Alliance forces attempted to make some semblance of a life for themselves while enduring skirmishes with natives, with varying degrees of success.

You can read the complete story in the Beyond the Dark Portal novel.

Around Azeroth: The prince and the panther

Around Azeroth The prince and the panther SATURDAY
"Inspiration is a wonderful thing," writes submitter Cragin of Alleria (US-A). "While running through the worgen starting area yet again, because it's just that great, I came back after being AFK to the following scene. And, looking at the inherently funny-in-a-way-you-can't-explain picture of my kitty sitting next to Prince Liam in his Victorian garb, it hit me: World of Warcraft: Vaudeville!
Cragin: More Forsaken in the offing!
Liam: More Forsaken?! What a chore.
Are they vampire Forsaken?
Cragin: No, no, zombie ones galore!

Liam: So what shall we do now, Cragin?
Cragin: There's just one thing which will convince.
Liam: ... You will bite them, Mr. Cragin?
Cragin: ABSOLUTELY, MY GOOD PRINCE!
This stuff just writes itself."

Breakfast Topic: Has your realm organized its own web site or social media?

Breakfast Topic Has your realm organized its own web site or social media
Do you socialize online with your realm mates outside of the game? Does your realm even have a coherent realm community on the web or in social media? At its most basic, players from a given realm can socialize to some degree on Blizzard's official realm forums, although I'm sure you've discovered how chaotic and contentious most of those forums are. If you suspected there simply has to be a better way, you're right -- and many realms are enjoying them.

As it turns out, a number of realms have created freestanding realm web sites where players pull together to chat and coordinate special events, roleplay, charity fundraisers, holiday events and more. Roleplaying realms such as Argent Dawn (EU) tend to lead the way with fully developed web sites, a logical resource for coordinating complex, multi-guild storylines and events. Feathermoon's magnificent Feathermap.net practically begs players to get involved.

Facebook is home to relatively small but socially active realm communities. Argent Dawn (EU) boasts an active page here to augment its web site. Other realms that use open or closed groups or public pages on Facebook include Darkmoon Faire (EU), Draenor (EU), Gnomeregan (US), Moon Guard (US), and Zangarmarsh (US).

You can find your realm mates on Twitter, too, such as @Ghostlands_EU.

Has your realm organized on its own web site or on Facebook or Twitter? If so, are you plugged in? Share your favorite realm's web site, Facebook page or group, and Twitter account or lists in the comments so the rest of us can join in!

Hearthstone Highlights: Inducing Battle Rage

Hearthstone Highlights Inducing Battle Rage

A patch recently deployed to Hearthstone brought a heavy nerf to the warrior card Battle Rage. The original iteration of this card was extremely powerful and one of the best card replenishers in the entire game. The card text originally said "Draw a card for each damaged character." You didn't use this card right away in the early game, but warrior decks are known for throwing their weight around and dishing out as much damage as possible. Pair it with a card like Whirlwind which pings every minion on the board for 1 damage and that can provide you with much needed cards. Note that Whirlwind says minions whereas Battle Rage says character -- Yes, that does refer to players who have also taken damage.

Thankfully, Battle Rage has since been nerfed. It has been reduced from 3 mana to 2 mana and the text now reads:

Draw a card for each damaged friendly character.

Playing with Battle Rage

Most players don't typically need to bust out a Battle Rage early on. The nerf means that your minions have to be wounded (and not dead) in order to take advantage of it. Thankfully, your minions have multiple ways to take damage. The tried and true method is to throw them at your opponent's minions. But if your opponent has no minions, there's a few things you can do. Cruel Taskmasters can ping a friendly minion for 1 damage and provide it with a +2 bonus attack. The Injured Blademaster comes into play pre-damaged. You can Slam your own minion (an extra card). You know what else is a beauty about warriors? Think about all the different interweaving minions that play off of your minions taking damage. Just look at Armorsmith and Frothing Berserker. Lastly, if your minions aren't going to be able to go toe to toe with your opponent, drop a Commanding Shout and charge their lines to soften them up.

Playing against Battle Rage

Battle Rage by itself doesn't represent much of a threat to you. The potential threat is based on the amount of cards it can draw into. If you're engaging your opponent's minions, make sure you actually finish them off. Warriors don't many methods to refill their hand, so Battle Rage, Shield Block, and Slam play key roles in that. Starve a warrior of their cards and minions and you'll be able to choke and stifle their offense. Obviously, there isn't much you can do if your opponent chooses to damage their own characters but you don't have to make their job easier.

Warrior decks are stronger now then they were prior to the reset and Battle Rage continues to play a key role there so don't completely discount it after the nerf. It is still strong enough to help you dig into your deck and find you the cards you need to win.

Warcraft movie slated for discussion at BlizzCon

Warcraft movie slated for discussion at BlizzCon
The upcoming Warcraft movie will get its own one-hour panel at BlizzCon 2013. The panel will feature director Duncan Jones as well as Chris Metzen and Rob Pardo on hand to discuss the transition of Warcraft from game to screen. Taking place from 1-2pm Saturday on the Main Stage, the one-hour presentation may just clear up some burning questions players have had about the film -- like what exactly the film is going to be about, among many, many other things.

The movie itself was first announced as a possibility all the way back in 2006, and the last time we had a panel at BlizzCon dedicated to the film was a Q&A panel back in 2007. Since then, discussion about the movie had mostly dwindled out, leaving many to wonder if we'd ever see Warcraft on the big screen at all. 2013 marked an absolute flurry of new information on the film, as Duncan Jones was announced as the new director, filming was rumored and later confirmed to begin in 2014, a mood piece teaser was shown at San Diego ComicCon, story and casting rumors flew, and we were at last given an actual release date for the film: December 18, 2015.

So what can we expect from this year's movie panel? That's a very good question. No doubt discussion of the evolution of the film may take place, although whether or not any questions will be taken at the panel hasn't really been made clear. But that small teaser piece from ComicCon hasn't aired anywhere since it was shown in San Diego. Will we get to see the teaser? Will we get a different teaser? Will casting be announced for the film? If you're headed to BlizzCon or you've signed up for a Virtual Ticket, you won't want to miss this panel -- and for those not attending, we'll be covering it here as well.

WoW Moviewatch: The Story

Legs and Cranius go great together. It's hard to put it much simpler than that. The Story hit the streets back in 2009 and, like many things, has stood the test of time. If ever there were a finer pair of collaborators, then I don't know them. Sit back today and enjoy a song from yesteryear. They managed to make it even better than the original, and that's saying something.
