PSN pick: the multiplayer mayhem in Atomic Ninjas is far from sneaky

October 11, 2013 7:00 AM | Anthony Swinnich

If there's a bone in your body that loves a competitive four-player arena battle platformer, Atomic Ninjas by Grip Games is the title for you. Knocking colorful ninjas off screen or into hazards is much more difficult to accomplish against human opponents than one might first imagine.

The Wolf Among Us is almost among us

October 11, 2013 5:00 AM | Konstantinos Dimopoulos / Gnome

Telltale's first series after the monstrous success of The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, has already unveiled a good chunk of its dark and lovely self via the trailer posted above. And, yes, things do look very graphic novel-y and surreal, the frog in a suit is as imposing as these things are, and the game should be another excellent, choice-based adventure light, you can already pre-order here for a nice 10% off. The first episode of the series, Faith, will be properly released later today meaning that interested parties should hurry.

Plants Vs. Zombies composer, Melolune dev Laura Shigihara reveals next game

October 11, 2013 3:00 AM | John Polson

Developer and composer Laura Shigihara has been taking a break from RPG Melolune. While that may read as heartbreaking news, her new adventure sounds like it's going to break our hearts in another way. Prepare your tear ducts for Rakuen.

Free Game Picks: Indie Speed Run 2.0.2

October 10, 2013 11:50 PM | John Polson

indie SR 2.pngAnother day, another fun batch of freeware and browser-based Indie Speed Run games to try: a hyper-fast tower defense game where you are building a way to the moon, a sheep herding and sheering game with a bald shine and hungry enemies, a Monaco-like game with one player having all the skills needed, and a top-down furniture rearranging game.

These are my next picks while digging through Indie Speed Run 2.0.

Alpha Pick: 'redraw reality' in glitchy hacker, stealth platformer Interference

October 10, 2013 6:26 PM | John Polson

Developer Anthony Beyer reached out to share his new alpha demo for his tech-noir set Interference, which pleasantly disrupted my email digging. Anthony was also kind enough to cut a raw video clip so I could show that the game was more than just Mark of the Ninja with no-kill missions; the levels are also subject to Rubik's Cube-like hacking and rearranging.

Browser Pick: Fight over who gets to use the car in your Happy Abode

October 10, 2013 3:35 PM | Lena LeRay

happy_abode.pngEvery Indie Speed Run team gets a theme and an element that they must incorporate into their 48-hour game. Michael A. Ewert got "Chores" for his theme and "Board Game" for his element. The result was a clock-faced board on which each hour is a space and where two players take turns placing tasks on the board to get points.

The good and bad of being 'Not On Steam'

October 10, 2013 1:25 PM | John Polson

not-on-steam.jpgThe Not On Steam sale has come and gone, during which time the games on offer grew 50%, from a lineup of 40 to over 60. Concurrent with that sale was a new batch of games Steam gave the Greenlight, where some of the games went from being 'not on Steam' to being prepped for Steam. Mixing these announcements together seemed like the perfect storm for everyone.

Well, almost everyone. Definitely not for those who were not on Steam, nor not in the "Not On Steam" sale, which had to be capped at 62 games because of concerns that the website was going to take too long to load.

iOS Pick: expand your radial awareness with Duet by Kumobius

October 10, 2013 10:55 AM | John Polson

Your eyes, ears, and thumbs were built to perform this Duet together. Kumobius, the devs behind Bean's Quest and Time Surfer, has released its trance-enducing Hexagon-like dodger, Duet for iOS devices, and it is a sensory treat.

Steam pick: try to escape prison in puzzle platformer Escape Goat

October 10, 2013 7:00 AM | Anthony Swinnich

Two years after its initial XBLIG release, Steam users can finally experience Escape Goat under the umbrella of Valve's download service. The Steam version is every bit as fantastic as the original release, and if you haven't played it yet, you're doing yourself a massive disservice.

iOS Pick: Ring Run Circus and Kalio's amazing monocycle

October 10, 2013 5:05 AM | Konstantinos Dimopoulos / Gnome

ringrun.pngLadies and gentlemen, straight from Montevideo, Urugay, let me present you with the amazing Ring Run Circus and its three nimble, cycling and -according to some- magical acrobats! Please welcome, Nina, Ned and Nelson, and let them race you on their monocycles through their wondrous dream world of interconnected rings.
