Symptoms of a Slipping Transmission

A slipping transmission is generally an issue with automatic transmissions. There are clutch bands in an automatic transmission that grip the various gear sets to transfer power from the engine to the wheels. If these bands do not have enough force to grip tightly, they will slip. The most visible problem with a slipping transmission is the vehicle will have difficulty accelerating. When you step on the gas, you might see the tachometer increase in speed, but the vehicle itself does not go any faster.

There are several things that can cause a slipping transmission. You could be low on transmission fluid so it is unable to create the hydraulic pressure necessary to engage the bands. There could also be blockages in the valve body or in the various fluid passages in the transmission. Your bands could also be worn out.

At Transmission Man, our specialists can troubleshoot your transmission and get it running smoothly again.
