He has just been given an astonishing public dressing down by his former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson.
So David Beckham was probably relieved to be able to lark around with his gorgeous two-year-old daughter Harper in Los Angeles.
The former Manchester United star looked uncharacteristically glum as he took in an ice hockey game on the west coast.

Biting his tongue: David Beckham put daughter Harper's hand in his mouth as Sir Alex Ferguson's autobiography was released
Early word of his old boss' comments seemed to have filtered through to the 38-year-old as he watched the LA Kings take on the Calgary Flames on Monday night.
However his mood seemed to perk up as the action heated up on the ice, with former England star smiling while his sons Brooklyn,14 and Romeo, 11, cheered with delight.
The family's good mood was to be broken come the end of the match however.
For a last minute goal from the visitors saw the former Stanley Cup winner's crash to an humiliating 3-2 home defeat.
His bite is worse than his bark: Perhaps the media personality had accidentally nipped the youngster
Cooling off: David will surely have been fuming when he heard what his old boss had said about him
Things are looking up: The retired footballer was in a far happier mood as he played with Harper
Little Harper didn't seem bothered by the game outcome though as she attempted to distract her dad, as she watched the action from his lap.
Whilst her dad and brothers were dressed down in t-shirts and caps, little Harper followed her stylish mum's lead as she smartened up in a dusky pink cardigan and white shirt.
She even added an accessory in the form of a candy necklace, and had her hair pulled up into an on trend top knot.
Victoria meanwhile was also spotted in the stands, looking chic in a casual black jumper and jeans as she clapped the action.
Family time: Romeo, 11 and 14-year-old Brooklyn Beckham cheer on the action with their family at the Staples Center, Los Angeles
Me and my girl: David looked completely smitten as Harper did her best to distract him from the game
If David was disappointed with the score at the end of the game, he will have bigger things on his plate after being accused of being arrogant and having an addiction to fame as his former manager reopened old wounds in his new book.
Sir Alex wrote: 'The minute a Manchester United player thought he was bigger than the manager, he had to go.
Smile dad! Harper seemed to cheer David up despite a disappointing result at the ice hockey and his drama with his old boss
All grown up: Romeo and Brooklyn looked delighted to be out with their family for the night
'David thought he was bigger than Alex Ferguson. That was the death knell for him.'
He also said the star, who went on to play for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, changed after marrying Spice Girl Victoria.
Family affair: Ironically Sir Alex claims Victoria is one of the reasons David never fulfilled his potential
Something to cheer about: Unfortunately for David and Romeo the LA Kings lost after a last minute goal
Friends no more: Sir Alex Ferguson was once a father figure before they had a bitter falling out
He said: 'David was the only player I managed who chose to be famous, who made it his mission to be known outside the game. I felt uncomfortable with the celebrity aspect of his life.'
He also said the midfielder's achievements did not match his fame.
Sir Alex said: 'For my money, after the change, he never attained the level where you would say: that is an absolute top player.'
Call Me: Brooklyn jokes around as the family leave Nobu in West Hollywood after having dinner
Heading home: David takes the drivers seat after enjoying a meal with Victoria, Romeo and Brooklyn
On his bike: David looked sad as he rode around West Hollywood on his little motorcycle on Tuesday
Throttled: The retired midfielder has been given yet another public caning by straight-talking Sir Alex
Pedal to the metal: David loves nothing more than going on a whizz around the streets on his bike like Dennis Hopper

Are you foreal. So David is being critised carving himself a name outside football. If you ask me he is clever to do that because football doesn't last. You are replaceable in football. He has a great family and a name outside football.
