Now that I think of it, I feel that I wouldn't mind hearing Sam Riegel voice Monokuma with the same voice he used for Teddie, considering that they're both bears, that may or may not happen.

It's a shame that Funimation licensing the anime series made no difference to NIS America's handling of the dub for this video game...

Now I bet some clueless fans will complain in the future when Funimation eventually releases the anime on DVD/Blu-ray "why wasn't the original dub cast brought back", when the finger should be pointed at NIS America.

NIS America could've outsourced the game's dub to Okratron5000 and guaranteed cast consistency and prevented any unnecessary hostility but since they're married to Bang Zoom for all video game projects I'm guessing the thought of using Okratron never occurred...

However just because there's an "original" English cast doesn't mean another cast can't do better

For example I strongly prefer FUNi's dub of DBZ over Ocean Group's dub

But sometimes the first cast is tough to surpass. For example I still strongly prefer the 4Kids dub of Pokemon. TPCi can continue dubbing the show for the next 10 years and still won't sound as good IMO.

Funimation has never outsourced any dubs to Bang Zoom for franchise related anime titles they've licensed so I don't see that pattern changing in the future (Hyperdimension Neptunia anime is another similar case which will probably be an even bigger deal since it's a more popular and established franchise).

Likely scenario: SOME of the game cast are invited to record in Dallas but would have to pay the traveling costs out of their own pocket. Most of them refuse so almost all of the roles will then be voiced by different people.

Maybe it's best the Funimation VAs don't bother trying to imitate the Bang Zoom VAs. Then they can act as they probably would have if NIS America had outsourced the game to Okratron in the first place.

I suppose any out of town VAs who do make the trip might work on a few other shows (to make their trip worthwhile) which could be interesting; probably One Piece or Fairy Tail which are always needing new voices for the numerous new characters in future arcs Funimation has yet to dub.

Oh well at least there might be some interesting Voice Compares for Danganronpa in the future.

I just think it's irresponsible of NIS America who could've done something useful but decided to shoot themselves in the foot and then left a one-year time bomb ticking at Funimation's front door.

I'm not blaming the Bang Zoom VAs since they're just trying to work on jobs they can get, but I hope they're prepared to be disappointed if they never get a phone call or email from Funimation when dub production starts on the anime next year.

@freezeframe100 If FUNimation were to outsource the dub of the Dangan Ronpa anime to Bang Zoom like how the company did for the upcoming US release of the Black Lagoon OVA's, then we'd see the game's voice cast back for the anime.

But the scenario for Dangan Ronpa is really unlikely, compared to Black Lagoon given that the dub for the latter was based in Vancouver, thus giving a good reason to outsource it.
