'Your lifestyle is an affront to God': Diners leave shocking homophobic abuse on bill for 'excellent waiter' instead of a tip

A 20-year-old waiter was congratulated on his 'excellent' service at an Italian restaurant in Kansas last Friday. But instead of a generous tip, he received hateful homophobic abuse.

The unnamed server at Carrabba's Italian Grill in Overland Park went to pick up a credit card bill and found a note explaining exactly why the couple couldn't tip him and repeatedly calling him a 'f*g.'

The rant began: 'Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD.'

The message continued: 'Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours.'

Yet the outspoken diners made it very clear why the waiter was not getting a gratuity: 'We hope you will see the tip your f*g choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly.'

And the homophobic note concluded: 'It is never too late for GOD’S love, but none shall be spared for f*gs. May GOD have mercy on you.'

News of the unpleasant gesture spread quickly round social media and in the local community where the server has received a large amount of diners wanting to give him extra tips and moral support.

Support: Dr Marvin Baker, who has worked as a pastor for many years, visited the restaurant to support the server. 'I was angry. I said this is not Christian as I know it,' Baker said.

The 20-year-old, whose mother also works at the restaurant, is remaining anonymous.

But, according to KMBC, he made a brief statement saying: 'The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated, but not at all needed. I'd prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else.'

But the man is still getting plenty of support. KCTV reported that Dr Marvin Baker, who has worked as pastor for many years, visited the restaurant with his partner and asked to be seated in the server's section.

'I was angry. I said this is not Christian as I know it,' Baker said. By chance, it was the abused waiter's mother who took Baker and his partner to their table.

'This does not represent Christianity. I called them Pharisees,' Baker added. 'God really loves us. And God does not advertise or promote hate. That is not love.'

This incident aside for a moment, stuff like this really happens. Is that so hard to believe? What I don't understand is why they didn't leave immediately if they were so taken back by the food server? They gladly accepted the service and even commented on how good it was. That is what the tip is for, not for the lifestyle of the food server.

I bet anything that they are Whites, and definitely republicans it's always whites who are hateful of anyone that's not white and heterosexual. Doesn't your hate tire you out? Grow up.

the waiter provided a service, his 'life style' is his personal life. the customers received he excellent service, therefore should tip accordingly. the waiter's personal life is none of the customers business. don't mix profession with personal life.

I suspect that the server didn't get a tip and penciled this in on his own. If it were true why would he feed it to the media.

It's a good thing they wrote their stupid rant AFTER they had eaten. Never annoy your waiter. See the film 'WAITING' with Ryan Reynolds

I waited tables for twenty years and stuff like this happens. Wish it was like Europe , Here , waitstaff work for tips and only tips becuase the paychecks are taxed so that a paycheck is zero , So when the people you have to wait on stiff you AND insult you it is reallly reallly messed up. Everyone in USA should have to serve tables for a year then maybe , maybe this country might learn some civility.

In a perfect world...amirite? I also worked as waitstaff for several years, it did teach me to be a good customer and a good tipper. I don't work in food service anymore but I have great respect for all who make their living that way, I always tip 10-15%. It's generally a bad idea to mess with people that handle your food, and if you do you deserve anything that comes your way :)

The practice of tipping servers needs to be eliminated for exactly reasons like this. They are paid a sub-minimum wage, and can end up working at a loss over arbitrary nonsense like this. It is an extremely taxing job, in which you have to bear an often abusinve public. It is physically draining and is a very emotionally troibling job due to the fact that with each table, your wage is on the line. Wait staff should be paid an appropriate salary that reflects the work they do and is in line with the success of the restaurant, which they contribute to via successful service. It is open to endless abuse that each table is like some job interview all day long, and you may or may not be paid, and in many cases will experience real abuse. This is the worst example, and clearly these are deeply hate filled people who stole services from this person and feel justified in doing so, but even without such extremes wait staff have to deal with being ripped off for endless excuses.
