Sinead O’Connor publicly dismissed her recent feud with Miley Cyrus on Friday evening – and promptly started another with music mogul Simon Cowell.

The 46-year-old singer made headlines after addressing Cyrus in an open letter, prompted by the former Disney star’s admission that her Wrecking Ball music video was inspired by Sinead’s Nothing Compare 2 U.

While Sinead’s letter was harshly honest, it was also complimentary to her music, as she advised: ‘You have enough talent that you don’t need to let the music business make a prostitute of you.’

The letter led to a public dispute with the 20-year-old, who controversially referenced Sinead's public mental breakdown in 2012 by comparing her to troubled actress Amanda Bynes – currently seeking help for mental health issues.

Despite the controversy, the outspoken singer played down her tiff with Miley during an appearance on The Late Late Show in her native Ireland.

Speaking to host Ryan Tubridy she said: ‘As far as I'm concerned it's over, it's not something I really want to talk about.

‘I don't feel sorry for me or for anybody else in the matter, that's not what it's about. The broader issue, I feel sorry for the murder of music.

‘I feel sorry for the murder of rock 'n' roll which has happened because of the industry. Because of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and the lot of them (talent show judges) have murdered music.’

She added: 'They're murderers of music! I stand and say it on behalf of every musician in the world and they will all agree with it.

‘I don't give a s**t if I hurt them ... All the sexualisation of young people, all the worship of bling and money and diamonds and 'Pop Idol' stuff, Simon Cowell - it all amounts to the murder of music.’

Cowell – whose stable has previously included The Teletubbies and Robson & Jerome – is currently fulfilling his judging commitments on the US version of The X Factor, while Miley prepares for the imminent release of new album Bangerz.

'I'm not dismissing the records (Simon has) made,’ she continued. ‘Miley's records are great records as far as I'm concerned.

‘What I'm saying is that I feel the industry of music does exploit people who are possibly a little too young to know what they're doing.

‘Why I got involved in the issue of whether or not it's appropriate for a 20-year-old woman to be asked to lick sledgehammers for songs that has no lyrical reference to any such thing in them is that I would see it as an exploitation of somebody who's possibly a little too young to understand the dangers of allowing oneself to be exploited in that way.'’

Sinead - who wore jeans, a pair of brown thigh high flat boots and a hooded pink sweater - also referenced the current plight of Bynes.

‘I was upset on behalf of Amanda Bynes,' she said. 'I thought it was a nasty thing to do to Amanda Bynes because she had nothing to do with the conversation. And also the poor girl is in hospital at the moment receiving treatment.’

However, Sinead acknowledged Miley probably didn’t set out to hurt Amanda, who was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold after she set fire to a driveway in Thousand Oaks, California in July.

‘I doubt Miley is the type of person who sat down and said that I want to hurt Amanda Bynes,’ she said.

Sinead also spoke about her own career, revealing she first shaved her head after her record company tried to sex up her image.

She said: ‘I was asked to wear mini-skirts and grow my hair and that is why I shaved my hair. I wanted to be genuinely judged on my talent and not how I looked.’

As for what's next, Sinead said she is already working on a new album and hopes to release it next year.

She explained: 'I’m great at the moment, loving touring. I’ve started recording my new album already. It’ll be out next August and it’s full of romantic songs.'
