Heavy cargo coming through: Chevy Chase has excess baggage as he wheels both his and wife's luggage through airport

Larger than life star Chevy Chase didn’t appear to be lightening the load as he made a trip through  Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday.

The 70-year-old actor had some heavy cargo on board as he wheeled along both his and wife Jayni’s luggage on a trolley.

The portly star of National Lampoon's Holiday film franchise was wearing loose-fitting black cargo trousers and a grey T-shirt under a grey hoody and green flak jacket.

With a cap over his grey hair and sunglasses hiding his roundface, the star was almost unrecognisable as he followed his slender wife, who he has been married to for 31 years, through the airport.

But the baggy clothing couldn't  hide the fact that the comedian has put on a few pounds since walking out on TV sitcom Community last year.

The actor, who starred as the wealthy, grumpy and bigoted Pierce Hawthorne, reportedly used the N-word on set after becoming irritated about the direction his character was going.

He didn't use the term against any of the cast and apparently later apologised to his co-stars.

The alleged rant came after a bitter argument between Chevy and show creator, Dan Harmon erupted very publicly when a profanity-laden voicemail the actor left for his boss went viral.

Putting that behind him, Chevy has been busy working on the big screen since then.

He is starring in director Luke Matheny's romcom Lovesick with Ali Larter, Ashley Williams and Matt LeBlanc.

The actor has also been working on Hot Tub Time Machine 2, a follow up to the 2010 hit, which is in post production.

And he plays a gravedigger in Before I Sleep, which has yet to set a release date.
