Elizabeth Banks was among celebrities mingling with the equine stars of the thoroughbred racing world at the Breeders' Cup World Championship at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, on Saturday.

It was a perfect autumn day for the annual event, and the Hunger Games star celebrated the season in a fitted dress decorated with brown leaves and red flowers that tapered into a pencil skirt that fell just below the knee.

The 39-year-old blonde balanced carefully on black high heels as she watched the races, and chatted to David Krumholtz, best known for his role in TV series Numb3rs.

Actor David Arquette, 42, was in the stands for the championship that ends the thoroughbred racing season, sporting a brown trilby,  light brown check jacket, white shirt and and flowery blue and orange tie that matched the daisy in his lapel.

Actress Bo Derek, best known for her role in the film 10, was at the event in a professional capacity as well as to enjoy the day - she serves on the California Horse Racing Board and owns Andalusian horses.

The 56-year-old looked stunning in a straw trilby and an elegant cream trouser suit.

Others keeping their eyes firmly on the runners included Sliders star Jerry O'Connell and actress Heather Locklear.

Heather, wearing a peach dress and black fascinator hat perched on her blonde hair, was at the races with her ex-husband Richie Sambora. The two have become great friends since their divorce in 2007.

The longtime Bon Jovi lead guitarist played the famous Call to the Post on Friday that started the Breeders' Cup and also rocked out in Songs In The Saddle: The Infield Music Fest that entertained racegoers throughout Saturday.

She's a great looking woman, but that dress looks like something stitched together from a pair of curtains from the 1970s .........and those shoes .....

How do you write an article about a horse race ans not note the winner?

The Classic was one of the best horse races I have seen. Bravo and well done to the connections of Mucho Macho Man, and tip of the hat to Gary Stevens!
