An Instagram love story: Meet the couple who met, fell in love and got engaged - all through the photo-sharing app

These days, it's not uncommon for couples to meet on dating websites and end up getting married. Now another social media platform is cropping up as a matchmaker - Instagram.

Denis Lafargue, from Louisiana, and Texas-based photographer Elizabeth Wisdom first got in touch when Denis commented on a photo of an Oregon mountain range that Elizabeth had posted on the picture-sharing app.

After ultimately exchanging numbers and visiting one another, the couple made it official with an engagement in June - and shared the special moment online with a picture, of course.

The photo that first sparked a connection in 2012 was taken by Elizabeth, who has 4,419 followers.

The scenic snap was of Crater Lake in Oregon, where she and her family had been on vacation.

Denis, who currently has 2,600 followers and presumably found the photo by searching keywords, commented on it: '*Gasping* I miss this place,' to which she responded: 'It's seriously the most beautiful place I've ever been.'

Thus began an exchange of pictures and comments that lasted for several months, eventually leading to an exchange of phone numbers.

In October 2012, Elizabeth decided to fly out to Louisiana to visit Denis, who works as a musician and church leader.

She posted an Instagram picture of him climbing between two concrete blocks under a bridge outdoors, which garnered 252 'likes'.

A few months later, after spending more time together, Denis announced via their favorite app that Elizabeth was officially his 'Instalady'.

He captioned a photo of Elizabeth sitting on a fallen tree in the woods: 'Instagram is the new Match.com haha.'

This summer, the couple took a trip to Elizabeth's grandmother's barn in Hainesville, Texas, where she told Denis that's where she hoped to be married one day.

She snapped a whimsical photo of her boyfriend standing in front of the barn, with rays of sunshine shining down between the trees.

And on June 27, their next visit to the barn, he staged a romantic and Instagram-worthy proposal: a 30-picture timeline from Instagram, chronicling their relationship, which led Elizabeth into the barn.

Denis, who was waiting inside with his guitar, sang Elizabeth a song he wrote for her before getting down on one knee to pop the question - and he captured the special moment in a photo, of course.

'It was so perfect out there,' Denis wrote on his Instagram page. 'The sun was setting, and she looked so beautiful.'

Elizabeth then took a moment to share a photo of her ring - a silver band set with three round diamonds.

The couple are planning on getting married some time next year, and their Instagram followers couldn't be happier for them.

'This is lovely!' wrote one commenter on Elizabeth's page. 'You guys are the cutest. Keep being an inspiring couple.'

Another wrote on one of Denis's pictures: 'You guys are the cutest. I love your love story of how you two came to be. This gives me hope.'

According to Denis's Instagram page, they have already begun thinking about where to go on their honeymoon.

Their top choice? The Crater Lake area in Oregon.

Well I for one wish them well. Beats reading about a bunch of folks hooking up in bars and begging the government for a pregnancy termination.

In 50 years, Instagram will seem like the telegraph does to us today. As a matter of fact I suspect everyone will be living in the matrix by then. Thankfully I'll be dead.

I think it is sweet. How ever people meet and which ever way they share their joy, it is a good thing. What do DM nay sayers want? The usual fare of death, destruction, and mayhem?

It's all about the 'friends', 'followers' and 'likes'. Nothing happens unless you post a picture of it. I dispair for the narcissistic future.
