DM 101 is an entertaining self-teach module designed to give you all of the skills necessary to become a NWN2 Dungeon Master. While it is primarily designed to teach basic DM skills, including use of the DMFI Tools, even experienced DMs may learn a new trick or two.
The accompanying documentation walks you through all the necessary steps to create a DM avatar and start the game with the DM client, so no previous experience is necessary.
Download package includes the tutorial module, DMFI Tools hak, installation instructions, and module documentation.

A very good piece of work very similar to its NWN version.
But by now it seems partial broken:
*** After a possessing the tutorial books aren't usable anymore!***
Workaround:
Always save before possessing s.o.!
After the possessing reload and continue the tutorial.

Well this looks very use full! _________________________ Murder in Dunlop Fanglewood

Kaldor - thanks for the comments, they should prove useful to people who are looking at using the mod in its current state. I haven't really looked at it since patch 1.23 broke the re-activation of the guidebooks; it would require a full redesign to overcome that issue. Also worth noting is the fact that there are sometimes multiple ways to do things with the DM client and DMFI Tools. Everything that was included as instructions (through 1.23 at least) worked and was repeatedly playtested.
Dr Oxford - this module is in the "tutorial" category. Not sure what you were expecting, if you weren't looking for a DM client tutorial.

am voting low because honestly, this thing isn't fun at all it is not in the right category? This seems like something you put somewhere else. All it is is an in game manual. i understand people like it but when this is wedged in with very fun campaigns and its no fun at all, i am not going to say it is.
if this is moved to a better section message me on here and I will change my voting based on the standards of what this is supposed to be.
i just think with all the work you did here, and others did in their modules at least u can take 2 minutes and pick a proper spot for it in return you get my vote
based on the standards 4 being "has some merit" this does not, as a game mod

It seems that holding down CTRL isn't needed when selecting a group of characters. Just being in strategy mode is sufficient.
When creating H, L, & D the instructions say to double-click them in the creator list, click the create button, and then place them... but there is no create button nor is one needed.
So, a little buggy, but provided a straightforward introduction to the DM client tools. I'm left wondering about how to integrate the DMFI tools into my own campaign as a modder.

Looks like if you save your game and then reload the saved game, selecting the same character, and then allowing the default of using the version from the saved game, then the DMFI tools do not appear. If you use the character version from the localvault then you are dumped into the antechamber regardless of where you were when you saved (which is also what happens if you create a new character), but the DMFI tools do show. Then you can use the chooser to jump to the area you were in when you saved.

Working my way through this and having some issues.
The 1.23 bug prevents reactivating the guidebook when needed. I found that using the Chooser to jump to another area and then back again allows the reactivation to work again.
The Forest guidebook instructs you to hold down CTRL and draw a box around a group of NPCs. It should also say that you can only draw a box if you are in strategy mode. This won't work in the other modes.
Something in the Forest area is causing the DMFI toolbox to vanish and there seems to be no way to cause it to reappear.
This looks great, but I don't understand how to access the DM client. The instructions say when I launch NWN2 I should select the "DM Client" option. There is no such option on my main menu, or any sub menus.
When I load this module, it loads like any other module, asks me to create or load a character, and then I'm in the module.
I'm fully updated on patches (1.023 (1765)). I have MOB and SOZ. I have a bioware username and password. I remember in the original NWN there was a DM client button somewhere, but I don't have it in NWN2.

Just played through this. Great work, I could think of a better way to learn to DM client. Thanks
Just been through this tutorial and now feel ready to take on some players :S
I didn't encounter any obvious problems even though it uses an older version of NWN2
As was recently pointed out by a user, the latest NWN2 patch (1.23) has apparently introduced a bug whereby a custom item cannot be re-activated following possession of an NPC. This effectively breaks the module flow in multiple places. It still can be used for informational purposes, but unfortunately the in-game practice aspect is made more difficult.
I am posting this bug to Obsidian. I won't hold my breath for a fix, but if one is put in place, will post again.

Totally useful for beginners. Simple and to the point. Would probably have had me playing a few years ago to.

Thanks very much! I'm recommending this mod for all our new DMs on ALFA.

Thank the gods!
I wish they came out with this, like 2 years ago lol. I've had to tinker and play with the DMFI tools to learn on my own. However, there are alot of things that I never knew about, like the map DM jump feature. I knew in NWN1 you could use the Minimap... but thought it wasn't available for 2. Now I see how they implented it. .. Very cool guys. Much love, and thanks for this tutorial! _________________________ AKA: GuardianofLore.

This is just great. I was wondering if NWN2 would get its own DM101. I just hope this helps to breathe new life into DMing for NWN2.
