The Pedestrian Council of Australia is encouraging all employers and employees to start walking regularly, to improve their health and well-being and raise funds for their favourite charity.

One of the best ways to improve your health is to build walking into your daily routine.

It's easy:

  • If you can't walk all the way, use public transport and get off the bus, train, tram or ferry a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way to work.
  • If you need to drive, try to leave the car at least a kilometre from your destination and walk the rest of the way.
  • Take a walk at lunch-time for at least half an hour.
  • Where possible use the stairs rather than escalators or lifts.
  • If you sit a lot at work, walk around at least once every hour or get up to talk to a colleague instead of sending an email.

Everyone can get involved. If you would like to raise funds for your favourite charity, simply register at walk.com.au and follow the prompts to set up your fundraising page. Then you can ask your friends, family and colleagues to support your walking efforts. Fund-raising is optional.

You can participate as an Individual or create a Team. Organisations may wish to support their employees' fund-raising efforts, or create Organisation/Company Teams.

We encourage you to print the poster above or download it here WTW Poster and put it up around your workplace to help raise awareness for the Walk to Work campaign.

You can also download the FREE WTW App to track your walks to and from work, or during lunch-time, and you will receive Frequent Walker Points each time you log a walk. Organisations can create scoreboards for employees as well. The App can be used for fund-raising. Search 'WTW' when you download the Free App from the App store or Google Play.

So put your feet first and support the Walk to Work campaign.
