Open Thread

Need a break from talking about serious business on the main Siliconera site? Come crash in the Open Thread where you can talk about things that aren’t necessarily related to videogames and get to know the other members of the community.

The Open Thread has three simple rules:

1. Keep it safe. Don’t link to explicitly NSFW material. Apply common sense.

2. Be polite. This is a cool community. We don’t like rude people.

3. Try not to spam multiple replies if you can reply to several people at once. Use the “@” feature.

Posting rules for Siliconera as a whole: (READ CAREFULLY!)

1. Read before you write: If you’re glossing over an article in a hurry, that’s fine. If you intend to enter the discussion in the comments, make sure to read the full post properly.

2. Think before you write: What you say and post on the site has consequences. Comments that generate discussion are encouraged. However, rudeness or flaming are in no way constructive, and should be avoided. Typing a post with insults like “Crapcom” will likely get you banned if you do it more than once.

3. No console requests: We’re sorry that "Super Awesome Game X" isn’t available for a your favourite console, but spamming the comments with "why isn’t this for NeoGeo Pocket" isn’t going to make it happen. DO NOT beg for ports or complain when games are announced for other systems.

4. Keep an open mind: Siliconera covers a very wide variety of games from all over the world for a wide range of platforms. Don’t like a particular kind of game or a particular genre or a certain game system? That’s great, but remember, the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily care to know about it. Let people enjoy the things they enjoy, and don’t ruin their fun with negativity.

5. Express yourself clearly, but not repeatedly: Don’t like a particular game or piece of news and really want to voice your thoughts? OK, fine. But if you intend to express your disdain, make sure to provide well-articulated reasoning with proper grammar, or people will laugh at you. Snarky one-liners will not be tolerated. Additionally, once you’ve had your say, let go. You don’t need to post the same comments about a game in every new article unless there’s a very good reason to do so.

6. Whining about western games or developers: See above. If your reason for disliking a game is simply that you don’t like western games or western developers working on franchises you love, then this isn’t the community for you. Please take your opinions elsewhere if you don’t have something more concrete and articulate to back them up with. Siliconera has roots in the Japanese industry, but we love and cover games from all over the world. We do not cater to narrow-minded gamers.

Get through all that? Great! Remember, as long as you’re polite, well-articulated, and respectful of other’s tastes, you’ll have a good time here.

  As I’ve said before, I don’t play too much games, so I’ll have to go with Bayonetta as my top favorite thus far. Apart from her voluptuous body, I love her personality the best! She’s smooth, aggressive, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. （￣へ￣ ✿） I love her accent, too!

  What I love most about Rinko is her personality, she may seem a bit cold at times, but that is far from the case! She’s basically as close to a tsundere in Love Plus, and even though her tone may not say it at times, she still loves you. O_o Don’t let the age difference scare you, it’s nothing but a number and physical appearance(though you said he’s cute so I assume it’s not a problem for you). Just think about what he really wants. I know it’s a stigma but he is an older guy and you are considerably younger. Also, if it develops into anything serious, think about what it will mean to date an older guy. The future, what people will say, etc. If you’re fine with everything, take him up on his offer. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Okay guys remember my situation?

Well I don’t know if this is progress but I got used as a Human pillow.

The situation leading up to that went like this:

My internet was going a bit slow and so My friend told try this connection named “Maach” which sounds similair to the dutch word for Stomach (Maag).
I then told her that my Stomach was acting up to which she replied “Then you might think I’m mean when I do this.”
and Suddenly her arms went around my waist and she used me as a Human pillow,
I’ll admit i was surprised and it did feel pleasant, but I’m still stumped on what to think and/or do.

  I played Sly Cooper series for the first time last year. At first sight I thought it was a childish game and didn’t have much expectation to it but it blows me away, its not a childish game and IMO its like cartoon version of Nathan Drake (Not to mean that Sly copying Nathan Drake because obviously Sly came out first) but their personality are very same to me. And I’m looking forward to this game :D

      My PS2 has a lot of RPGs, Suikoden series, .hack quadrology, GU, Atelier series, Mana Khemia series, Legendia, Abyss and mostly RPGs and some Anime fighter and sport games and to tell the truth it doesn’t have Devil May Cry, God Hand, Gran Turismo, Ico, Shadow of Colossus, Ratched and Clank, MGS and many other great games :D
      
      I’ll pick them up though some times :D
      And that’s why I love HD Collection because I never played them before and I never bought them legitimately :D

  Definitely going to get this. Though it does seem like they still need to work out a few things. The hook goes a bit crazy when he slides down the zip line in the second video and some of the animation looks slightly stiff. Just slightly. I know they have a while till it’s released(right?), I’m just pointing out things that are hopefully fixed. Right now it just looks like they’re not really using much of the PS3′s capabilities and just making a shinier PS2 game.

        By “generally” I meant not only higher-res textures and things like that, but more fluid,less stiff animation. Not that it’s very stiff to begin with, but it could be better. He’s a raccoon for Pete’s sake. I also think that they could make the game a bit flashier while still preserving the Sly look. But as we both said, there is still time to do all of that. But as it is right now, it just looks like a shiny PS2 game.

The more recent DW titles have basically diverged from their historical accuracy roots. DW2 and DW3 were great for their accuracy and attention to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novels but the newer ones like DW6 and DW7 have basically dropped all semblance of sticking to even the novel. For example, Sun ShangXiang’s campaign even goes through the last showdown between Shu and Wu and technically the last military campaign that Liu Bei embarked on (in the novels, anyway) even though she was no longer involved with any state politics or military affairs.

As for DQ, I guess I should have clarified “conflict” as being more than just good vs evil. The sort of “conflict” that I refer to has more to do with political and military conflicts, those types of conflicts are usually more complicated because no one is “right”. Conflict, in this case, would include games like Tactics Ogre where obeying your king and committing genocide puts you on the Lawful path whereas refusing to commit genocide puts you on either the Neutral or Chaotic paths.

DQ simply doesn’t and never deals with such types of political and military conflicts. What DQ presents is an overly simplified world view of good vs evil where even defeating the random enemies doesn’t even “kill” them aside from bosses. This is in contrast to the Tales Of series where there is always a military/political factor involved with the actions of the protagonists.

MH is meant to be played in groups, especially groups where you can see your friends’ faces. You can play solo but that doesn’t mean that you’ll know what to do against certain monsters which is why having at least one other person involved makes the ordeal that much easier. Also, MH doesn’t have “conflict”. It is a hunting action game, pure and simple. There is nothing politically complex about MH and rightfully so.

Unless you have Chinese origins/knowledge, kanji is going to be hell. And most of the time, pronunciations/meanings are all based on context.

I would rate Japanese as the second hardest language to learn if you have no Chinese knowledge at all due to kanji alone.
The hardest would be traditional Chinese but we don’t want to go there do we?

From what I’ve read in the site I always go to for study (japanese.about.com), even Japanese themselves don’t always remember their kanji (one friend in Facebook, who’s half-Japanese, half-Filipina, only knows 900 of the 2000+ kanji). So you don’t really need to know their Chinese origins. And in fact, I’m studying the kanji too and I’ve observed that the Japanese modified the kanji to their liking. So the kanji you learn in Japanese may not be the same as the kanji in Chinese.

Yup, hard language to learn but it’s fun ^_^ At least now I can identify a bit of the kanji. As long as I keep at it, I’ll be able to be proficient in it.

Definitely have fond memories of the series. Days of Ruin was pretty good despite its story being completely different, setting and mood. I was worried, it’d take itself too seriously. They were also able to balance out the game, because Dual Strike had some really broken stuff.

I really do hope they give it another shot on the 3DS and see what they come up with.

I think that would be the hardest part about learning Japanese for me ‘cuz even though all the languages I know are different in their own ways, they still use the same (relative) alphabet. Yes when I played it the main storyline was kinda ok whatever to me and then when I saw the ending it was so awesome. And as Testsubject909 said, I’ve heard they’re already making a sequel and teasing about it, maybe we’ll see in E3.

Me too somewhat. I always like demons. I remember making demon (whether full blooded or half breeds) OCs when I was younger. Then I got into Inuyasha thanks to Adult Swim. xD But after a while, I stopped watching Inuyasha and became less and less interested with it. Then I got into Devil May Cry ღ(‘∀’ღ ●)♡ and the rest is history.

And now Im somewhat into Saiyuki and Kurohime. Speaking of which I need to buy more volumes of the Saiyuki manga and anime and Kurohime manga.

Yes, I played Lament of Innocent to but never beat it, I was a half-ass person back in the day playing a game for few hours and then changed to other game.

I knew only his name Gabriel Belmont and don’t know other than that and I played it with no expectation. The main storyline about him wanted to revive his wife was kinda ok whatever to me but the ending was great didn’t expect that :D

The only thing I don’t like is it doesn’t have leveling system. I love leveling system because I love overleveling haha. But I do understand that it’s kinda impossible to have leveling system on this game though because this game just move on whereas the other Castlevania game have a lot of backtrack so leveling is possible IMO.

Hmm I don’t think you should take it that way, its their personal action toward their employee and even if people didn’t buy their things that probably doesn’t mean anything to them because its not like we’re paying them to do that and when they don’t get their money they could do it too because they wanted to. And perhaps there are more things like this case that we don’t know about because there aren’t any report or media exposure.

Well this is…different. It’s almost like they read my comment in another recent Tales post. I was thinking that it’d be interesting to see how well the Tales team can mashup the bright and colorful cast the Tales games are known for with a darker and more mature story/world. Side note, if they’re going for a Xillia approach for the graphics, more specifically the character models, they need to do better in that department. I haven’t played the game, but judging from screenshots, it wasn’t the best looking Tales games.

About the employee. Maybe she was *sick* of all the DLC they were shoving down her throat? I kid, I kid :P Poor lady.
