African led force in Mali moves from Abidjan to Addis Ababa

Last modified: 28 Jan 2013 20:50

A UN official told Al Jazeera that the operational control centre of the African-led force in Mali has effectively moved from Abidjan to Addis Ababa, under the AU.

The official raised concerns about the AU's lack of capacity to deal with that.

UN officials told Al Jazeera that the troop pledges have to do with countries either wanting political participation in the Mali conflict resolution, with one official naming Chad, or
because they want money for their troops, with the official having named Burundi.

Tomorrow's pledges will be based on the original plan of 3,300 troops; an additional donor conference will be needed for the rest and will happen on Feb 5.
