He's romanced beautiful women before. So it's no surprise he'd want to talk to one of Hollywood's hottest television hosts.

Mel Gibson and Maria Menounos made for quite the odd pair Saturday night at the Mending Kids International's Wings Around the World - African Safari Gala in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 57-year-old actor clasped his hands firmly in front of him while chatting with and being interviewed by the 35-year-old Extra emcee.

Mel looked dapper in a black suit, black and grey wing-tipped shoes and polka dot handkerchief poking out of his jacket pocket.

Maria showed off her fit gams in a dark blue, tiered dress that fell above her knees.

The sometimes professional wrestler paired her fabulous frock with a sparkly silver clutch and heeled sandals.

At one point, the duo were snapped sitting down with Maria holding onto a microphone and Mel once again clutching his hands in front of him.

While not on Extra duty, Mel and Maria chatted with an unidentified woman.

The former beauty queen also interviewed Gene Simmons and his wife Shannon Tweed at the event.

The Simmons family was honoured at the event for their contributions to MKI.

'Combined so far Mom, Nick, Dad and I have donated 280,000 dollars to @mendingkids' tweeted Gene and Shannon's daughter Sophie.

Maria had quite that Saturday.

Earlier in the day she wore a maroon knit dress while talking to Emile Hirsch and Stephen Dorff about their new movie The Motel Life.

The threesome seemed to enjoy their time as they were snapped smiling and laughing.

On Thursday, the Massachusetts born stunner got a little more male attention than she perhaps bargained for as The Wanted's Max George was caught checking out the presenter's pert derriere.

The overt ogling took place while Maria wore a curve-hugging black dress and stilettos.

what a misleading, character hammering kind of title is this? Why didn't the title say something about the REAL situation. Like - Mel Gibson lends a Helping Hand to Mending Kids! Which is the REAL story here - the kids and the foundation that the event was intended to support. Gee whiz. Can't believe you'd rather keep fanning the "bad Mel" image instead of honoring a worthy foundation. Sad excuse for journalism.
