Tyson Beckford has revealed that while there is a lot of hype surrounding female models' diet and exercise routines, it's just as difficult maintaining a fit body as a male model.

The 42-year-old told Perth Now that along with regular cardio exercises like cycling and jump-roping, he does up to 600 sit-ups and 200 to 1,000 push-ups every single day to maintain his physique.

Not only does he have a rigorous workout routine, but he also follows a restrictive diet that involves avoiding sugary foods, red meat and alcohol, limiting himself to mostly seafood, vegetables and healthy fats.

Hard work to look that good: Tyson Beckford, 42, has revealed that along with regular cardio exercises, he does up to 600 sit-ups and 200 to 1,000 push-ups a day to maintain his physique

The father-of-one - who has a son Jordon, 14, from a previous relationship with stylist April Roomet - added that he could never do the stereotypical Diet Coke-and-cigarettes model diet.

Explaining that he knows a number of models who eat that way, he confessed: 'I don't know how they do it, I can't do it - I need to have some real food in my stomach.

'I don't even drink soda, I don't smoke,' he added. 'I avoid it all.'

Mr Beckford first launched into fame in 1993 when he became the face of Ralph Lauren Polo, and has since been featured in editorials for V Man, WWD and Attitude Magazine.

And in the two decades since he began his career, the modelling industry - and how models look - has changed drastically.

'When I started the men were all built and beefy, now they're all skinny! But I've got my niche'

'It's definitely different for male models now,' he said.

Apart from modelling, Mr Beckford has also hosted two seasons of Bravo's Make Me A Supermodel, and in 2012 he appeared in Fox's dating game show The Choice.

Whoever commented on his feet...you are right, they are as flat as pancakes! Thank God he is not perfect. This is not jealousy speaking...just relief.

if he does all that and still isn't lean enough to keep loose skin from hanging over his shorts, s---w it - it's hopeless; i'm staying in this chair reading and typing.

It's obvious he doesn't care much about his brains. Without sugar, he'll end up brain-dead, so to speak.

Clearly you're not a fan of Beckford from day 1. He hasn't changed at all, just gained more bulk.
