Brooke Mueller hid two rehab stints from her doctors during pregnancy, reports RadarOnline.

The 36-year-old socialite gave birth to twins Bob and Max, her sons with former husband Charlie Sheen, seven weeks early four years ago but allegedly didn’t tell her medical team that she had sought treatment for her addiction to crystal methamphetamine.

According to RadarOnline Charlie, 48, knew but didn’t inform anyone because he ‘was very protective of Brooke, and didn’t say anything because they both had a real fear that the boys would be taken away from them and placed in foster care’.

According to the website: ‘Brooke didn’t tell her obstetrician that she had been to rehab twice while pregnant… Not one member on her labour and delivery team knew she had been using crystal meth during most of her pregnancy.

‘Brooke was extremely afraid of being criminally charged with child endangerment because of her drug use while pregnant, so nothing was said to anyone.’

However, the source admitted Charlie – who divorced Brooke in 2011 and is currently embroiled in a bitter custody war with her over the twins – now realises he made a terrible mistake.

The insider said: ‘Charlie now recognises that was a catastrophic mistake for several reasons.

Perhaps if the boys had been taken away, that might have scared Brooke enough to get sober once and for all.

‘Secondly, the boys would have been properly treated and assessed for fetal alcohol syndrome.’

After Brooke was admitted to rehab for the 21st time earlier this year, Charlie’s other former wife Denise Richards, 42, took them in.

She cared for Bob and Max until earlier this month when she made the heartbreaking decision to give up her temporary custody.

In a letter to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Denise revealed she feared for the safety of her daughters Sam, Lola and Eloise along with the family dogs because of the twins’ ‘violent outbursts’.

Brooke’s brother Scott has now been granted temporary custody and he has been praised as a ‘role model’.

A source told E! Online: ‘The boys are doing great. They have never been happier. When the teacher told them last Friday that their uncle was going to be picking them up from school, they were really, really excited. They put their arms in the air. They were full of joy about the decision. They love their uncle.

‘Brooke's brother is a role model for the boys. He has been a stable influence in their life all the way through. He's been there for them since they were born. He has spent weekends with them. They trust him and adore him and he was the perfect person to step in.’

Charlie's representative had no comment when contacted by MailOnline while Brooke's representative has not responded to a request for comment.

Meth during pregnancy! OMG. Even the biggest crackheads can stop during pregnancy! She has a serious addiction if this true. She has problems still and hopefully she can beat it before too late. This may explain why Denise can no longer handle their behavior, surely they're affected. Wow. Charlie can hardly ridicule her if he "helped" cover it up. Then again, this is Radar DM is depending on for information, hardly a credible reference.
