Kim was wonderful - and I'd love to shoot her mother: Bruce Weber on how 'celebrities aren't so important'  - unless they are a Kardashian

Legendary photographer Bruce Weber has revealed that he typically loathes working with celebrities, unless they are Kim Kardashian.

Weber, who has shot campaigns for brands like Abercrombie & Fitch and Versace, sat down in conversation with fashion legend Fern Mallis in New York as part of her lecture series at the 92Y on Wednesday.

Weber admitted to Mallis: ‘Photographing celebrities isn’t so important to me, and I feel bad that so many photographers are forced to photograph them.' Kardashian, however, is exempt.

Weber photographed Kardashian for the cover of DuJour magazine’s Spring 2013 issue. He said that although he nearly turned down the opportunity to shoot Kardashian, he was ‘taken’ with the star upon meeting her.

He became so enamored, in fact, that Weber ended up turning their shoot into an unexpected 18-page fashion spread.

‘I wasn’t sure that I was going to be the right guy for the job, and then I met Kim,’ he said of their on-set encounter.

‘She came to set — and I always judge the person I’m going to photograph by how they are with my assistants and my crew — and she looked at each one and introduced herself. She was just so personable with everyone. She was wonderful. I really had the best time,’ he recalled

Weber also added that ‘[Kim’s] mother was really, really interesting…That’s who I really want to photograph.’

For all of Kardashian’s talent, Weber remains wistful about the supermodel era of the Eighties and Nineties. 'I really miss having these really great girls who were great models on the pages of magazines,' he said.

Weber also addressed the topic of Cindy Crawford. Earlier this week, he sat down for an interview with Huffington Post Live and revealed that Crawford was the only model who he had ever kicked off set, on account of her behavior.

‘I once had a terrible shoot with — well I guess I can’t talk about it,’ he told Mallis. ‘You know, you talk about these things and all of the sudden they’re in the press, and you’re like, “That was, like, 30 years ago.”’

Following the discussion ELLE.com spoke to Weber to inquire for more information about Weber’s current relationship with Crawford, especially considering his comments.

He told the magazine: ‘I just wrote her a note today because I thought that it was important to. It was all over the media. And I said “Cindy, we were both so young when it happened, and now that I think about it, I was kind of a brat too.” So, I think it was just a part of growing up, you know.’

Shoot as in photo-shoot. What planet are you all on! Talk about dim. He's a photographer.

"....and I'd love to shoot her mother:" I believe that's against the law.

"Kim was wonderful - and I'd love to shoot her mother" .... There are many of us that gag when we see another Kardashian reference that would really appreciate it if someone had done that 30 years ago. ;-)

Not sure about the unkind 'shooting' comments. Kind of wrong to say that about ANY human being

Bruce had to borrow a wide angle lens from NASA in order to get all of Pigdashian in the frame.

I actually believe him because The Kardashians will pay their way through ANYTHING. Of course he's going to have nice things to say about them.

You want to know why Kim is such a 'pleasure' to work with and is so nice to everyone? Because she wants to stay in everyones good books and wants to land any sort of photoshoot/magazine opportunity possible. She knows if she started any diva antics and questioned anyones choice of clothing etc she would be booted out as a talentless nobody. Kim wishes she was supermodel material and is actually envious of her own younger sister Kendall and her REAL high fashion modelling career. Quite sad really.
