It’s been almost 40 years since Robert De Niro starred as an insomniac war veteran who turns vigilante while working as a night time taxi driver.

And now Robert De Niro, 70, could be set to make a sequel to the classic film after he admitted that he would like to see what Travis Bickle would be doing today.

The Hollywood star played loner Travis in the award winning 1976 film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader. Icon: Robert De Niro (speaking at duringTHiNK 2013 in Goa, India) has recently revealed that he would like to return to his famous role

It has been speculated for years that there will be a follow-up to the critically acclaimed drama film.

Asked if Taxi Driver is the film he'd most like to revisit, De Niro told The Guardian: ‘Yeah, well, I had that idea. I said, why don't we write something? And I talked to Marty and Paul did take a shot at something, whether it was an outline or a script, I forget.

‘But somehow we didn't feel it was right and it didn't take off. But I'd like to see where Travis is today.

There was something about the guy – all that rage and alienation, that's what the city can do to you. I mean Marty and I are from New York, and even we can feel alienated.’

De Niro was also asked about the theory that Travis dies at the end of the film, with the closing scenes being a fantasy.

He said: ‘You mean the end of the movie? Well, that's an interesting theory. I know that was not the intention, but it's as valid as anything.’

No sequel necessary, iconic film, but if it was made I would have to see it.

I'm glad that he said "¿But somehow we didn't feel it was right and it didn't take off". Sequels and/or remakes of Taxi Driver, Bronx Tale, Casino & Goodfellas would be as horrible as 99.9% of movies that are victims of that.

Excuse me ProudGrl but Goodfellas earned over 100 Million in sales ....even more and Taxi Driver and his other films did just fine. If Mr. DeNiro want's it, you can be sure director Martin Scoresese will say "My cameras are ready to roll when you're ready to rock Bob." Didn't take off you said? His films are not victims of anything

Once Upon a Time in America is my favourite film of all time. DeNIro at his best . I have watched over and over and each time saw something different. Every De Niro fan must see this film. Also have a look at The Midnight Run.
