Girls kick start schools rugby
By PATRICIA TOREA
The NCD Schools rugby kicked off on Wednesday with the U15 and U19 girls matches at the Port Moresby International School Oval.
NCD Schools Rugby Coordinator John Agovai said due to lack of venues, the competition will be short and will over eight weeks.
The girls will have a 7s competition on Wednesday afternoons at Port Moresby International School coordinated by Andrew Briggs of Port Moresby International School (POMIS).
Agovai said although 20 schools are involved in the PiU program, only five have confirmed their participation in the girls divisions.
The schools are Port Moresby Grammar, Port Moresby International, St. Joseph’s International Catholic College, Gordon International, and Caritas Girls’ Secondary School.
The first game on Wednesday saw POMIS take on POM Grammar in the U15 division with POM Grammar winning 15-7.
The U/19 match saw POMIS and POM Grammar play out a 5 all draw.
The boys competition starts tomorrow at the Monier Rugby Park at 9am and will have a 15s competition with teams in U13, U15 and the U17 divisions.
