Waving the white flag: Charlie Sheen is bringing his war with LA's child services to a close

It had become a battle of attrition.

But it has emerged Charlie Sheen has decided to end his war with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services so he can get access to his children.

The Anger Management star had previously said the organisation was 'incompetent and lascivious' in the way it was handling his dispute with ex-wife Brooke Mueller over their twin boys Max and Bob.

But it appears the actor has had a change of heart as he bids to get access to the

A source told Radar he has has finally 'recognized that if he wants to spend time with the boys, he’ll need to cooperate with child protective services.

'Charlie stood on the sidelines as Denise (Richards, his second ex-wife] became the temporary guardian of the boys.

'That meant that he had visitation almost everyday. Now that Bob and Max are with Brooke’s brother Scott, he’s been frozen out. He hasn’t been able to see them.

'For that to change, Charlie needed to step up and participate. He doesn’t necessarily want full custody of the boys, but he does wants to spend more time with them.'

Charlie is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle with Brooke, and it took a surprising turn when Scott Mueller was granted temporary guardianship just under a fortnight ago.

It came after another of Mr Sheen's ex wives Denise Richards, 42, requested DCFS remove them from her care to because of their violent and unpredictable behavior.

She claimed in a letter to the court that she they had gone from 'kind and loving' to “zombie-like” boys who exhibit 'extreme violent mood swings' and 'violent behavior' since they got back in touch with their mother.

Denise, who had been caring for the youngsters while Brooke was in rehab, said they had 'strangled, kicked in the head and stomach, scratched, bit, slapped, punched in the face and head' her children with Mr Sheen, their half sisters Sam, Lola and Eloise.

She even claimed they broke into her youngest daughter Eloise's room and relieved themselves in her tub before throwing their faecal matter all over her bathroom.

Charlie has been trying to foster a more caring appearance in recent weeks, with Denise sharing a touching image of him kissing her daughter on Twitter earlier this month.

Can't fight City Hall, even if you are a mega-rich, womanizing bad boy! Time to become a mature adult.

I agree with Sarah - what kind of father is he? Brooke is a terrible mother but he is also a terrible father - poor kids. They need some stability in their lives.

Only looking and badmouthing from the sidelines without doing something. This guy just plays the fun dad one weekend a month. I feel sorry for all his kids.

Charlie knows he is not fit to look after them 100% of the time and his Denise was kind enough to step in and look after them. The kids change in behaviours is obviously due to Brooke returning on the scene and they should not be handed over to any member of her family where she can get access. They should be fostered and Brooke should have supervised access, until the court are happy she is 100% fit.

He doesn't see his other 3 kids so why would anything change now? Why did he insist on starting over? What a loser.

Great role model...not! Who exactly is going to get custody? Even his doormat ex is sick of him...pathetic

Good move Charlie! Hope you stick to it. Remember it is the children who are important, not you or your ex-wife !
