Mogul: Harvey Weinstein's company will produce a new Ten Commandments television series

Harvey Weinstein is to produce a ten part television series about the Ten Commandments.

The Hollywood mogul is reportedly teaming up with WGN for the ambitious series, according to Deadline.com.

It is set to be produced by Oscar winner Bruce Cohen, with each episode focusing on one commandment and 'its evolving significance'.

The Weinstein Company and WGN hope that each instalment will be helmed by a different 'A-list' director.

The new series, which is slated to begin shooting next March, is the most high profile production about Moses since the famous 1956 Cecil B. DeMille movie The Ten Commandments which starred Charlton Heston in the title role.

That film remains one of the most popular ever made. Adjusted for inflation, it is the seventh highest grossing film of all time - the 1939 epic Gone With The Wind still tops the charts.

Weinstein's new series follows a recent trend in faith based television shows and films.

The History Channel's mini series The Bible was a blockbuster hit earlier this year, with the first episode attracting 13.1 million viewers in March - the highest television cable audience in 2013 so far.

A sequel is reportedly in production at NBC, according to Deadline.

Other faith-based projects currently in production include Exodus, the Ridley Scott movie which will see Christian Bale play Moses alongside Aaron Paul and Sigourney Weaver.

Still a hit: Charlton Heston as Moses in the 1956 film The Ten Commandments which is still in the top ten grossing films of all time when adjusted for inflation

'It's an intriguing piece, because it's very few people that I've met that have actually read the Torah, the Pentateuch, the five books of Moses, all the way through,' Bale recently told HitFlix about the film.

'Most people read snippets. If you read it all the way through, it's harsh. It's really "Old Testament". And violence in the extreme. He was not a man of any half measures whatsoever. There's a lot of shocking stuff about it.'

Darren Aronofsky's epic film Noah, starring Russell Crowe in the title role, will also hit cinemas next year.

Is always fun to read comments from so called "Christians" You think the people from the "golden age" of Hollywood who produce the original bible movies were Christians? Even the passion of Christ was blasphemous all movies are sin anything that takes away from reading the bible and worship is sin. It doesn't matter who made them they are all bad!

Do you think he will donate the money he makes off this to the conservatives or will the proceeds of this be funneled to the great leader? Then, they can have a good thigh slapping laugh over it.
