She won legions of admirers with her trademark red mane as sidekick Amy Pond in BBC series Doctor Who, and shocked fans after she underwent a drastic haircut for a new movie.

And on Monday Karen Gillan's crop showed healthy signs of regrowth as she looked calm and collected dressed in black while out shopping in LA.

Her fiery locks resembled more of a long fuzzy buzz cut compared to when she first unveiled her skinhead in July for her new Marvel comic film.

The 25-year-old actress was channeling understated cool in a black trench coat, black leggings and Ray Ban sunglasses, which complimented her punk hairstyle perfectly. Karen finished off the look with white and beige ankle boots.

Karen rose to fame on Doctor Who, playing sidekick Amy Pond, and also stars in upcoming independent film Not Another Happy Ending.

The actress' hacked off her usual flowing flame locks for a buzz cut to play a space pirate alongside Bradley Cooper and Benicio Del Toro in upcoming sci-fi flick, Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The Scottish actress told Metro that she wasn't anticipating loosing all her hair for the role, as she wasn't expecting to get it.

‘They told me I’d be bald before the audition, and I was like “Yeah that’s fine,” thinking there was no way in hell I’d get the role.’

Not deterred by the drastic hair cut, Karen said she found the whole experience entertaining:

‘The day they cut my hair off, everyone was creeping around, being extra complimentary, because they’d all been briefed they might have a sobbing actress on their hands,’ she says. ‘I fell asleep in the chair and woke up two hours later with no hair. It was hilarious.’

I would certainly give her another look - to ASCERTAIN if this head belongs to a boy or girl. She is very watchable and I love her in the David Bayliss series... A bit of steeliness with a bit of vulnerability thrown in ..Some people are just born with IT, whatever IT is..

I love Karen, she looks awesome. She's from Inverness, which is just 40 minutes from the village I grew up in (Gairloch) and my fiancé in also from Inverness too. It's great to see a Scottish girl doing so well for herself. She really was wonderful as Amy Pond in Doctor Who and I do still miss her. And Rory aka Arthur too. :)

There's not many women who look great with no hair, but she does. Must be very easy to take care of too!

Are people so used to hair extensions that they can't understand that if you shave your head the hair takes time to grow back to its old length? She's not making a fashion statement, she's not "showing off her new do", her hair's just growing. Terrible use of English in this article too.
