Is this the world's most blinged-up band? Electric violin group FUSE debut $2m dollar designer gold violins

They previously worked with Swarovski Crystal to create the world's first ever crystal violins worth a staggering $1.5 million dollars.

And now Linzi Stoppard and her electric violin band FUSE have raised the bar even higher with a collaboration with the esteemed jewellery designer Theo Fennell.

Linzi who is the daughter-in-law of Oscar winning writer Sir Tom Stoppard and her bandmate Ben Lee worked alongside bespoke violin maker Bridge with some finishing touches by designer Theo Fennell to create the 24-carat gold-plates violins which are worth over $2 million each.

The stunning instruments are adorned with rubies, sapphires and diamond encrusted skulls which have a nod to FUSE's rock and roll style.

In order to make the violins light enough for the popular electrical violinists to use easily a bespoke blend of carbon and kevlar was used to off-set the weight of the gold plating.

The exquisite instruments which have been insured for millions of dollars took over nine months to be created and were unveiled at Theo Fennell's Chelsea store before they are taken on tour to America and Asia.

Stunning brunette Linzi spoke of her delight at using the world's first ever gold violins saying, 'Ben and I fly all over the world to play live rock violin and in every destination we put on a spectacular show. The thrill of playing with these new gold violins is something I can't describe'.

Bandmate Ben added, 'The art and science involved to make each violin has blown us away. Entirely new and original components had to be designed for the instruments, plus new electronics have had to be engineered to counteract the conductive 24-carat gold. They are exceptional pieces we will treasure'.

The popular electrical violinists celebrated another first earlier this year when they became the first string act to feature with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with a James Bond themed musical collaboration at Henley this summer.

FUSE are releasing their new single. 'Step Up Beethoven' in time for Christmas in America and will be following it up in the New Year with a US tour.

I hate these stories of the kind that go into the Guiness book of records for instance. They put a £10 million diamond onto the front of a 100 year old shoe that was worth nothing and straight away becomes the worlds most expensive shoe. Crazy and obvious. I'd rather have an instrument that cost a lot of money through quality and master workmanship

Don't rate them. There are far better violinists out there.

They fly all over the world to perform? Amazing, considering I doubt anyone's heard of them in Birmingham, let alone Beijing.

Refreshing to see something a bit more out the ordinary, should give the violin world some well needed spice. Clearly a talented bunch, bravo, keep it up.

Point? When I think how many meals for hungry children that would buy, sort of focuses one's perspectives . . . .
