Shawly not: Katy Perry wears a thick grey cape and geeky specs as she dresses down for a girls night out

One assumes her arms will be on full display when she takes to the stage at the 2014 BRIT Awards, but they were hidden from view on Wednesday when she stepped out in Hollywood.

The 29-year-old singer had clearly hoped for an incognito outing at local cinema ArcLight, where she took in a screening of new movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with a female pal.

Indeed, Katy opted for a shapeless grey cape for a rare evening away from her furious promotional missive for latest album Prism.

The songstress kept her left arm tucked well inside the thick winter garment while a brown leather handbag hung from her right as she made her way inside the popular West Hollywood venue.

No doubt wanting to pay a discreet visit to ArcLight Katy teamed her cape with a blue woollen beanie hat and geeky black spectacles.

The Roar singer completed a very subdued look with a pair of grey skinny jeans and matching Ugg boots that she put to good use by slipping inside for the screening, her flame-haired girlfriend by her side.

Katy’s latest appearance comes after she confirmed details of a world tour in support of her new album and a prominent appearance at next year’s BRITS.

The singer, a BRIT winner for best International Female Solo Artist in 2009, has since spoken out about her addition to the line-up in an official statement.

'The BRITs has always showcased the music that I love and am influenced by,’ she said. ‘It's an honour to play at such a prestigious event where musicality shines at its brightest.'

Katy, whose latest album has shot to number one on iTunes in 93 countries, also has a total of four BRIT Award nominations to date.

The first leg of her new Prismatic Tour will take in shows across Ireland and the United Kingdom, kicking off in Belfast on May 7.

Her new single, Unconditionally, will be released in the UK on December 16th.

Away from music she's also been lending her celebrity presence to a festive advert for her Killer Queen perfume.

Killer Queen is the third perfume the Fireworks singer has released, following on from the successful Purr and Meow.

'It took us something like 30 or 35 tries to get it right,' the singer told Women's Wear Daily earlier this year.

'I wanted some floral (notes), like jasmine, but I also wanted red velvet flower, which is incredible. It gives it the edge that makes it Killer Queen.'

She is amazing! What makes her beautiful is that she is the girl next door, but can become very glamorous. Everyone has that shine in them somewhere, and I think that is what the new album Prism is all about! Find your shine and let everyone see!
