An Ohio family says a man took their home from them by going inside while they were out of town, changing the locks and laying claim to the property in court. The family say they found out there was a problem after returning from a visit to a dying relative. Robert Carr, left, had filed 'quiet title' documents after the family abandoned their home of 21 years.

A 76-year-old woman was killed in a shootout as a gang tried to rob her outside her South Carolina home in the early hours of Saturday. Dorothy Hendrix was shot twice by the gang of two men and a woman, but she managed to shoot one of her assailants in the stomach before dying of her wounds. Steven Hagood, top left, who was hot in the attack, Tereba Geer, middle, and Bradacious Galloway, bottom, have been charged with murder.

Merrill Newman, 85, who is being detained in North Korea, was an adviser to a group of partisans, known as the 'Kuwol' Partisan Regiment, right, an anti-communist force that Newman trained as a 'White Tiger' and who fought deep behind enemy lines in the Korean War. Former members say they were working, fighting and engaging in espionage alongside Newman 'because he was an adviser'. The Kuwolsan soldiers are well known in South Korea, and are depicted in popular culture as heroes in the fight against communism. On Saturday, North Korea released a video showing the Newman reading a handwritten 'confession' of his role in the war, left. The North's KCNA news agency said he was a mastermind of clandestine operations and accused him of killing civilians during the war.

The Grand Canyon was blanketed in fog yesterday as a rare temperature inversion trapped cool air beneath the rim of the gorges. Temperature inversions happen when warm air high up acts as a seal to keep cool air, as well as pollution or fog, trapped below. While temperature inversions happen once or twice a year at the canyon, most don't produce jaw-dropping pictures like yesterday. Many inversions happen in just parts of the canyon or on cloudy days. Full inversions on perfectly clear days are more rare, happening closer to every 10 years. Some of the tourists who showed up for the busy holiday weekend were disappointed they couldn't see the Colorado River, but locals more familiar with the canyon's weather patterns turned out especially to photograph the event.

A brave mother led rescuers to the wreckage of a plane crash she had survived in Alaska as she desperately tried to get help for her baby boy who died in the accident. Melanie Coffee, pictured, walked for nearly a mile to find help after the light aircraft she had been traveling on with nine other people crashed in fog and freezing conditions on Friday. Four people, including Miss Coffee's five-month-old son, Wyatt, inset, died when a single-engine Cessna 208, making a scheduled flight to Saint Mary's, crashed at about 6.30pm.

Legendary newsman character Ron Burgundy was back in the hot seat tonight, co-anchoring KXMB-TV's newscast in Minot, North Dakota, with weekend host Amber Schatz. Actor Will Ferrell donned the famous burgundy blazer for his starring role, reading the nightly news like a seasoned professional.

Jubilant Auburn Tigers fans flooded the stadium and streets after their team won this year's Iron Bowl as the underdog-no-more, in a match ending that has shocked fans of the annual game. The entire field looked like a sea of orange shakers as the celebration continued long after the climactic finale of one of the biggest Iron Bowls in the bitter rivalry's 78-year history. The Iron Bowl is college football rivalry game played by the football teams of the two largest public universities in Alabama, the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn University Tigers. The series is considered one of the best and most hard-fought rivalries in all of sports.

For the three-and-a-half years of his courtship with Princess Eugenie, former waiter Jack Brooksbank has maintained a loyal silence. But now, in his first interview, he confirms they are very much in love and - despite the 3,500 miles between them - speak to each other as often as ever, via the internet phone service Skype. His face lights up when he speaks about the Queen's granddaughter, whom he says he plans to visit before Christmas. 'We spend a lot of time on Skype,' he says, smiling. 'It's great. We are still very much together.'

Zac Young, 19, is believed to have lost both legs when the shark attacked off the coast of New South Wales in Australia. He died of cardiac arrest when he was pulled onto Campbell's Beach, near the town of Coffs Harbour. It is the second fatal shark attack within a week off the Australian coast.

Alec Baldwin tweeted his support for Elan Gale today, The Bachelor producer made famous this week for his epic Twitter battle with a fellow flight passenger. Gale is under fire for publicly shaming a fellow passenger who became irate after a delay kept her plane grounded as she attempted to return home for Thanksgiving. Gale, who works for TV's The Bachelor, live-tweeted a series of exchanges, mostly via note-passing, between himself and a passenger known only as 'Diane' that allegedly culminated in Diane slapping Gale after they disembarked the plane. Gale posted on his The Year of Elan Tumblr account about the altercation, saying he was only trying to stand up for airline staff to whom Diane was rude and dismissive.

Michael Goodman, then and now on the right, was reading a Facebook thread about the closure of a New York bagel store when he recognized a name that brought memories flooding back about an incident he had never fully forgotten. In the late 70s Goodman had gotten into trouble with the police after he accosted Claude Soffel, then and now on the left, on the steps of The Museum of Natural History and stole his bus pass. Some 34 years later Goodman was reading a Facebook thread when he came across Soffel's name. In a touching Facebook thread Goodman spilled his heart out, admitted the incident still 'haunted him' and that he was very sorry for his actions. Soffel wrote back saying he accepted the apology and that Goodman was a 'hero' for being man enough to admit his mistake more than 30 years later. Goodman then thanked Soffel for his graciousness and that he felt 'joy' now that he had closure on the matter.

Autumn Chenkus, 32, and her boyfriend, Charlie Higgs, allege that New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan refused to put their child, Maverick, onto a transplant list because he had a rare genetic defect. Refusing to believe that their sons Coffin-Siris syndrome was a valid reason not to put him on the transplant list, Autumn and Charlie embarked on a month-long battle to get Maverick treatment - culminating in a fateful trip to Boston in June.

Suzette Hall, 46, was arrested in Loveland, Colorado Wednesday night after witnesses accused her of giving topless haircuts. Police were unable to locate her Craigslist ads, but arrested her for working without a license and felony criminal impersonation following a check fraud investigation. Her former business partner accused her of prostitution after noticing a strange man come into their salon, and found used condoms in the trash later. But friends of Hall's say she is the target of a 'witch hunt' orchestrated by her ex-husband and ex-business partner to put her behind bars.

A macabre selection of personal items that once belonged to former Boston crime boss James 'Whitey' Bulger are due to be auctioned off to raise funds for his victims. The lists of belongings to be sold includes jewelry, clothing and a boxing mannequin that Bulger used to leave propped near the window of his apartment to make it look as though there was someone keeping lookout. The U.S. Marshals Service is set to go ahead with the sale despite some concerns that it may be perceived as glorifying the convicted mobster if items of little value are included.

A 14ft python was shot dead by a Florida ranger on Friday, after the monster snake was spotted in the Everglades. The female snake was so large that four men struggled to hold it up as they paraded the kill on a sidewalk.
