Gordon Ramsay eyes up $20 million beach-front Malibu mansion with family on recent house-hunting trip

Gordon Ramsay could be about to put down roots in the US and spend a whopping $20 million on a spectacular beach-front home in Malibu.

The fiery cook took his family on a tour of several properties along a stretch of sand known to locals as Celebrity Row last week.

And it seemed one sprawling property in particular took the 47-year-old's fancy – a four bedroom, six-bath Cape Cod style house with a massive chef’s kitchen.

A witness said: 'Gordon’s eyes really lit up when he saw this property and he visited it three times on his house-hunting trip.

'He was standing on the sand in front of the home and pointing out his favourite features to the real estate agent who was with him.'

They added: 'And later he was excitedly discussing the house with Tana and the kids. He even high-fived daughter Matilda after the tour. It seemed like he loved the place.'

The TV chef, his wife Tana, 39, and daughter Matilda went to exclusive sushi restaurant Nobu afterwards for further discussions with the agent.

If he decided to purchase the plush pad, his neighbors would include Dustin Hoffman, Pierce Brosnan, Goldie Hawn and Danny DeVito, who all have homes close by.

The house, designed by renowned architect Gerard Colcord, boasts 100 feet of beach and is situated on three lots making it one of the largest on that stretch of coastline.

The mansion naturally has a large country kitchen with a fireplace, copper sink, breakfast/dining area, and opens to an outdoor covered patio.

The $20 million price tag was recently reduced by $4 million, but with a string of successful, restaurants, TV franchises and kitchen ware lines, and a net worth estimated at $118 million, it seems that the pad is definitely within the star’s price range.

Ramsay also took time out from the house hunt to spend time with his daughters, who took the chance to swim with dolphins in Los Cabos earlier in the week, before heading home on Friday.

The outspoken Scot recently told Triathlete magazine that he looked ‘like a piece of asparagus’ after losing more than two stone on a strict year-long diet and gruelling exercise regime.

From a starting weight of 16st 2lb, Ramsay – who is 6ft 2in – has dropped to a chiselled 14st with a face and figure that are almost unrecognisable to how he looked before.

He launched his health kick a year ago to prepare for the world’s toughest triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, and tried to keep his training secret by racing under an assumed name.

The thing that annoys me is that he's labelled as a successful chef with a string of successful restaurants but the success is not down to him it's down to the people actually running the restaurants. Yes he's worked very hard but how much cooking in his restaurants does he actually do nowadays?
