Plaid to the bone! Reese Witherspoon goes for an androgynous look in check shirt and skinny jeans to enjoy upscale lunch

While Friday was a day for bundling up and keeping dry, Saturday was a day for outdoor activities as Reese Witherspoon shed her warm weather clothes to keep up with the ever-changing Los Angeles climate.

The 37-year-old actress was in a great mood as she climbed out of her Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid in Santa Monica, clearly enjoying the warm autumn day.

The Legally Blonde star wore an oversize green and black chequered shirt that she wore buttoned to the top and rolled at the sleeves.

She paired the blouse with a pair of skinny dark denim trousers, which were cuffed at the ankled to show off her Saint Laurent double zip Paris ankle booties in black leather, which retail at $995.

Witherspoon paired the casual outfit with a Reed Krakoff track perforated tote bag in black leather and suede, which she wore slung over her shoulder. The designer messenger bag retails for $1990.

The Oscar winner wore her hair in a long bob that came down to her shoulders while she shielded her eyes with a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses.

The actress grabbed a bite to eat at the Ivy At The Shore in Santa Monica, an outdoor eatery famous for both its clientèle and its patio.

After her lunch, the Walk the Line actress ran errands, jumping into a local Whole Foods market for organic goodies.

As the weather cooled down, Witherspoon layered up, adding a black three-quarter black sweater to her ensemble.

The light knit jumper went perfectly with the chequered blouse, which the actress wore with the sleeves rolled over the edges of the sweater.

Currently, Witherspoon is working the film The Wild, based on the book by Nick Hornby. Co-starring Gaby Hoffman and Laura Dern, the story follows the 1,100 mile solo hike of a woman recovering from recent trauma.

The actress recently wrapped production on both The Good Lie and Inherent Vice, co-starring Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin and Jena Malone.

Witherspoon will next be seen in Devil's Knot with Colin Firth and Mireille Enos. The thriller is set for release in 2014.
