Mew-Genics wants you to hoard attribute-boosting furniture

Team Meat recently unveiled another aspect of Mew-Genics' gameplay: furniture collecting. Super Meat Boy creator Edmund McMillen discussed the game's furniture system in a blog post on the game's site, drawing comparisons to Nintendo's Animal Crossing series.

In Mew-Genics, players acquire furniture through Baby Jack's store then place it in a room in their house. Each piece of furniture, which belongs to one of five "types," influences a variety of stats in the game, from disease rates to each cat's life span. The five types of furniture are large, medium, small, wall furniture and those belonging to item sets. Team Meat says Mew-Genics will include 750 pieces of furniture in total, not including rare alternates for each one.

The cat genetics and breeding game will launch in 2014 for Steam, iOS and Android.

Leaked video shows GTA Online's unreleased content creator

GTA Online, the multiplayer side of Grand Theft Auto 5, will eventually add a content creator first promised in the announcement trailer, but one plucky individual managed to uncover it early, or at least an old version of it, in the current game code.

The above video, from the same individual who discovered potential upcoming DLC packs in the Beach Bum update game code, shows how the content cam works. Spawning weaponry appears to be a snap and even though we don't get to see this YouTuber start up any matches, you can clearly see options for beginning a Race or Deathmatch.

Rockstar Games has yet to announce when the full content creator will be unlocked in GTA Online.

How to replace Xbox One HDD for more storage, a voided warranty

It's possible to replace the Xbox One's 500GB hard drive, but Microsoft doesn't want you to and the potential upgrades are significantly less noticeable than the PS4 replacement, Engadget reports.

Adobe techie Brian Williams replaced the Xbox One HDD with a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD and a Seagate 1TB hybrid SSHD, and found the boot time for Call of Duty: Ghosts improved incrementally: 35 seconds for the built-in HDD, 27.7 seconds for the SSHD and 27 seconds for the SSD. An SSD replacement in the PS4 improved Killzone: Shadow Fall's boot time from 60 seconds to 39 seconds.

Those who simply want more storage in their Xbox One can follow Juvenal1's Linux-based how-to or watch Williams' video walkthrough of the process. The Xbox One will eventually support USB external storage, so this particular replacement dance isn't necessary, though it certainly is complicated.

Sony UK has 'pool of stock' to deal with 'dead on arrival' PS4s

Sony UK has prepared for any malfunctioning PS4 consoles, including the dreaded "blinking blue light" error. PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara told Eurogamer Sony has a stock of PS4s ready to deal with any consoles that are "dead on arrival."

"One thing we've done within our stock allocation is make sure we've got a pool of stock to deal with any 'dead on arrival' issues," Gara said. "It's not a vast volume, because there's no evidence to suggest we need a vast volume to deal with that. But our consumer services helpline is there to support gamers and solve any problems that do emerge."

When the PS4 launched in North America on November 15, reports of isolated issues started to surface. Now, with the PS4 enjoying the most successful launch week in UK video game history, Sony says the roll-out has benefitted from the extra time between regional launches. "[There has been] no major panic or changes required, but little bits of fine-tuning, not just on our side but also on the publishers' side," Gara said. "So, some small little glitches on some games that can be ironed out, patched and tweaked before it comes into Europe." Gara concluded, "the great news is there isn't anything serious."

Battlefield 4 update hits PC and PS4 tomorrow, fixes 'one-hit kill' glitch

EA DICE will release an update for the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Battlefield 4 tomorrow, addressing a one-hit kill glitch that has plagued the game since launch, among other fixes and improvements.

The patch will eliminate reported instances of a single bullet dealing damage multiple times upon impact, often resulting in one-hit kills. The PC version will see additional fixes that target audio bugs and screen blurring, while the PS4 patch will enable audio playback in video captures and fix crashes relating to large Friends lists.

The PC patch will deploy at 1:00 a.m. PST on December 3, while the PS4 update will be available "in the afternoon EU time."

Mario and Luigi 3DS XL bundle out now for $200

Nintendo's newest 3DS XL bundle comes with a pre-installed copy of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and an image of Mario and Luigi on the handheld itself, all for $200.

This confirms earlier reports of a Mario & Luigi: Dream Team 3DS XL bundle, outed in a Target circular last week. Dream Team has sold more than 1 million copies, and we found it to be "a satisfying detour for a franchise that is risking too much predictability in its main guise." Check out places to buy the new bundle here.

Familiar character returning in The Walking Dead season two

Telltale Games took to Twitter to tease the return of a familiar face in the opening episode of The Walking Dead's second season. The episode, titled "All That Remains," is expected to launch this month.

Telltale already broke the news in July that Clementine, the leading lady of the adventure game's first season, would be a part of the second season in some capacity. As for the other character, we've placed the original screen Telltale tweeted after the break to account for those that consider it just a little too much of a spoiler. No, the image above does not indicate that Kitten McFluffykins is returning in All That Remains, but that would be pretty unexpected, wouldn't it?

Score FIFA 14 on PS3 for £25 in PlayStation Europe sale

PlayStation Europe kicks off its yuletide PSN sale with a Christmas cracker: FIFA 14 for £25 (€35/AU$45) on PS3, and £20 (€25/AU$33) on Vita. They're the first of 24 gaming discounts in the wrongly named 12 Deals of Christmas - which doesn't run across the 12 days of Christmas either.

Instead, the promotion runs from the start of this month through to Christmas Day, with each discount available across 48 hours. That means you have until tomorrow, December 3 to net the FIFA 14 deals.

Messi Christmas, everybody!

PSA: Blood Dragon puts the Cyber into Xbox's Cyber Monday sale

There are no surprises in the Xbox Cyber Monday sale, with today's deals lining up as announced last week. That said, there are at least a couple of offers worth highlighting, including one for the most appropriate game this Cyber Monday: Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon. The standalone follow-up to Far Cry 3 is at 75 percent off, meaning you can gorge on all its 80s cyber-cheddar for $3.74.

That's the standout deal to us, but the excellent Dark Souls at just $5 is not far off it. Other nods go to Red Dead Redemption, The Witcher 2, and L.A. Noire, each of those going for $7.49, and to co-op beat-em-up Battleblock Theater, which is down to $4.94.

For the full list of one-day-only cyber-discounts, head over to Xbox.com.

Steam rises to 7 million concurrent users over holiday weekend

There's nothing like a Steam sale to remind us how not-dead or un-unwell PC gaming is. Just as it did this time last year, Steam's holiday sale helped the Windows, Mac, and Linux client reach a new milestone: more than 7 million users logged in at the same time.

Last year's milestone was 6 million, and our often unerring grasp of rudimentary math tells us that's a rise of 1 million across the year. Bear in mind that's concurrent users; the total number of registered Steam accounts surpassed 65 million at the end of October.

Speaking of Steam sales, there's still time to pick up the weekend's new deals, with discounts from upon high for the likes of Torchlight 2, Fez, The Wolf Among Us, Metro: Last Light, The Witcher 2, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Shadowrun Returns, and pa-lenty more.

PlayStation 4 enjoys most successful launch week in UK history

The PlayStation 4 had the best launch week in the UK of any gaming system to date, and in the words of Chart Track it "eclipsed" the Xbox One's sales from the week before. There's no confirmed numbers, but we know the country's previous fastest-seller is the PSP, and it sold 185,000 units across its debut week in 2005. The long and short: The PS4 done good.

British industry site MCV put the PS4's opening week sales at 250,000, according to its retail sources. MCV also pinned the Xbox One's UK numbers at 150,000, but again that figure is unconfirmed. In any case, the good news is both consoles are enjoying successful launches both in the UK and across the globe; Sony announced 1 million PS4 sales within 24 hours of the console's debut in North America, a figure Microsoft also hit when it launched the Xbox One across 13 markets worldwide.

As for this week's software charts, there's some predictable shuffling with the console launches. Call of Duty: Ghosts drifted back to the top, after FIFA 14 stole ahead last week with the Xbox One Day One bundles. The rest of the top ten is made up by games available across Xbox One and PS4, with the exception of Grand Theft Auto 5 in seventh, and Batman: Arkham Origins in tenth.

The charts don't read so well for the Wii U, though. The system's standout holiday game, Super Mario 3D World, debuted in 14th place, just behind PS4 launch game Knack in 13th.

Stiq Figures, November 18 - 24: I was wrong edition

Welcome to Stiq Figures, where the sales data is after the break and the posts don't matter.

I remember reading about the Rumble Pak in Nintendo Power and eventually seeing it in the ad campaign for Starfox 64. A device that made my controller shake around when I was hit? Sounds ... dumb, I thought. A weight for a controller that runs off of AAA batteries? As if scavenging for batteries around the house for my Gameboy wasn't hard enough! Much as I loved Nintendo, the idea just didn't strike me as something I'd want to try.

When my brothers and I unwrapped a Nintendo 64 bundled with Starfox 64 and a Rumble Pak later that year for Christmas, I was still indifferent toward the Pak. I just wanted to play the game! After watching my brother hook it up to the basement TV and waiting my turn, I promptly flew into a skyscraper in an effort to dodge an enemy's attack. The controller roared to life in my hands and I jumped, totally taken off guard by the real-life implications of my virtually botched flight plan.

Nowadays, using a controller with its rumble feature turned off just feels weird to me, like the experience is dead in my hands. Child Me figured the Rumble Pak would, at best, be an addition to a game or two like the NES Zapper or Power Pad were. Now that it's a standard feature and has even crept into the Xbox One's triggers, I'm glad to admit that I was totally wrong about the concept.

And that's what this installment of Stiq Figures is all about - we're all fairly educated about this industry since we love it so much, but I'm pretty sure none of us can see the future. What gaming trends have you made total miscalls on? Is there a concept or gameplay mechanic you rolled your eyes at initially, then realized it had spread elsewhere just a year or two later? Share the successes that surprised you in the comments, right after you check this week's hardware sales in Japan!

The Legend of Lobodestroyo is a game inspired by Banjo-Kazooie, yo

The Legend of Lobodestroyo Vs. La Liga De Los Villanos may take place in a world full of anthropomorphic animals like bandito chihuahuas, pirate parrots and wolf luchadores, but it's the real world, circa 1998 that developer Lefthanded Games wants to take you to - or at least, if not literally the place and time, they want to take you to the feeling you had that year when Banjo-Kazooie was released for the N64. Lobodestroyo is a 3D platformer inspired by such games, and is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Players will take on the role of Mutt, a runt of the wolf pack that follows Lobodestroyo, protector and guardian of Costa Lucha. When Mutt awakens to find Lobo and the rest of his pack missing and La Liga de Los Villanos escaped, he takes up the pack's magical belt and begins a quest to avenge his brothers and dropkick the 10 villains of Los Villanos into submission.

The campaign for Lobodestroyo has a little more than a week left, and at the time of writing, is sitting at about $12,000. The team's initial goal is $35,000, which will allow the game to release on PC, Mac, Linux, Ouya and Wii U. Lefthanded Games is participating in Ouya's Free The Games Fund, which means that Ouya will match the donated amount of money in exchange for a period of exclusivity on the system. At $39,000, the game will be ported to the PS4, and at $42,000, the game will come to nest on the Xbox One.

Game Music Bundle 6 offers tunes from Guacamelee, Braid and more

For two years, the Game Music Bundle series has served as a convenient alternative to leaving games running in the background to listen to music. Its sixth entry aims to do the very same with over 20 soundtracks, including Fez composer Disasterpeace's soundtrack for Famaze. The bundle also includes the first official digital release for Braid, along with soundtracks for Guacamelee, Kentucky Route Zero, The Stanley Parable, Mighty Switch Force and more.

A dollar will earn the soundtracks to Dust: An Elysian Tail, Braid, Rogue Legacy, Electronic Super Joy and Famaze, but contributing $10 will grant you all 24 albums involved in the bundle. Of course, if you'd rather give the composers more than a few cents, you can pay any amount above $10 that you feel is fair.

Warhammer 40K: Space Wolf howls in on Q2 2014

HeroCraft's turn-based, card-focused entry into the Warhammer series, Warhammer 40K: Space Wolf, will start constructing a deck for battle in Q2 of 2014.

The launch window comes with a new trailer which, despite being light on new details, offers a glimpse at unit types and attack animations for equipped Weapon and Use cards. Space Wolf's movement grid is also displayed as a unit straps on a Jump Pack to propel himself closer to his targets.

Space Wolf will be free to play on the iOS, Android and PC, though the press release noting Space Wolf's Q2 launch curiously states it will also be available on "other platforms." We've reached out to HeroCraft for clarification and will update as we learn more.

MMO Week in Review: Giving thanks

Star Citizen
At the end of every week, we round up the best and most popular news stories, exclusive features, and insightful columns published on Massively and then present them all in one convenient place. If you missed a big MMO or WoW Insider story last week, you've come to the right post.

Did you think Thanksgiving is about turkey and football and gluttony and buying stuff and "giving thanks"? It's not. It's about Star Citizen. It's about livestreams and speculation and piles of money and spaceships. Lots of spaceships. The spaceships are probably rolling around in said piles of money right now. So I guess it is still about gluttony. Huh.

Lumber onward for a run-down of the rest of this holiday week's top MMO stories.

Shovel Knight coming in early 2014 - can you dig it?

Sean Velasco of Yacht Club Games has confirmed to Destructoid that Shovel Knight will be shoveling and knighting across your PC, Mac, Linux system, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS "early next year." According to Destructoid, the game is nearing an alpha build, and developers are working "around the clock" to bring everything together.

You can pre-order Shovel Knight through the Yacht Club Games website, which will net you a DRM-free copy as well as a Steam key when it's ready for release. Destructoid also notes that when the game releases, it won't feature some of the Kickstarter campaign's stretch goals like local multiplayer or gender swap mode; those will be released as free updates as the game shovels along. We can dig it.

Toukiden: The Age of Demons will start a war on February 11 on Vita

Don't you just love our eternal peace between the human race and demons? Yeah, I bet the people of Toukiden: The Age of Demons loved it too, right until their realm connected with the Otherworld and they fought a week-long battle against their extinction by the claws of the Oni. A group known as the Slayers have protected humans since that day, and you'll be able to help them reclaim their land on February 11, provided you're practiced in the art of wielding samurai swords a Vita.

Toukiden follows the quest of a Slayer that's looking to thin the Oni's herd, but since characters, weapons and armor will be customizable, they'll do it while proving themselves as an individual. With six different weapon types available such as swords, bows and metal gauntlets, forming a diverse hunting group with NPCs should be simple enough. If you'd rather amplify the joy and frustration involved with teamwork, multiplayer stages will also let you team up with real life friends.

You can watch details roll onto the game's website until its February launch, or you can join us in our blind fear of the Drumble, which our scientific assumption tells us is a botched cross breed of an alligator and a corgi. We will never sleep again.

Report: Peggle 2 juggles balls on Xbox One December 9

A reported Peggle 2 release date indicates that the highly-anticipated sequel will be bouncing around your Xbox One on December 9. Both VentureBeat reports that Peggle 2 has been given a release date by developer PopCap, though the company has yet to make an official post on its own site.

VentureBeat also reports several new gameplay elements, such as pinball bumpers to keep your balls on the playing field (no laughing, you) as well as new helpers like Jeffrey, the beer-drinking troll. Peggle 2 will reportedly feature 120 levels when it releases.

Paradise Lost makes contact with double its requested funding

Paradise Lost: First Contact has breached the hull of Kickstarter's funding carrier and made off with $144,960, more than double its initially requested amount of $70,000. The funding campaign for the adventure game, which follows an alien lifeform's escape from a lab after being harvested from an asteroid, was concluded by developer Asthree Works today at 4:41 p.m. EST.

Of the proposed stretch goals, three were met - the final version will now include achievements, additional language translations beyond the base English and Spanish scripts, and a chapter called "Lost Memories" that will explore the events preceding the alien's capture.

Paradise Lost has also been greenlit for release on Steam, which an update to the game's Kickstarter page reminds us will result in free Steam keys for backers. If you'd rather not use Steam, Paradise Lost is planned for release on December 2014 as a DRM-free game for PC, Mac and Linux. The stretch goal for a simultaneous launch of the Wii U version was not met, so the release of that version will presumably follow the launch of the others. The Ouya version will also launch sometime after the game's initial release.
