Links for Friday morning
   June 28, 2012 (10:40 PM) by Matt

A bunch of things that will hopefully pass some time while you are at work on Friday.

Franco Panizo recently talked to Stuart Holden about his recovery process.  Holden is also switching numbers from #8 to #22 next year.

Another injured Yank, Robbie Rogers, is closer to full recovery as well and is headed back to Leeds for preseason.

It looks like Carlos Bocanegra is going to reject having his contract transfer over to the new Rangers 2.0 company.

Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill has confirmed that the club has made an offer to Mike Grella.

According to Greg Seltzer, Stoke City have begun talks with the Houston Dynamo over a fee for Geoff Cameron.

Mathew Wagner recently talked to Steve Clark about his work permit fiasco and Hønefoss’ season so far in 2012.

Brian Sciaretta has an interview up with Omid Namazi, an American who is an assistant coach with Iranian national team.

Chris Wright has made the move from Magdeburg to fellow German Regionalliga side Berliner AK 07.

And Matt Taylor has left Paderborn for German 3. Liga club Preußen Münster.  They have already started their preseason and he has scored a few goals already.  He will be looking to regain his 3. Liga form from 2010-11 when he scored 17 goals for Rot Weiss Ahlen (tied for the third most in the 3. Liga).

Andrew Wooten and Kaiserslautern have also started up their preseason with a few games, including a 2-0 win over SVN Zweibrücken.  Wooten has been getting some starts up top in a 4-4-2.

Tyrone McCargo has been promoted from Nurnberg’s U-19 team to their U-23 team, meaning he will be playing in the Regionalliga this upcoming season (which means we can follow him a little bit better).

A few guys in Finland played on Thursday.  Daniel Antunez went the full 90 minutes in Inter Turku’s 4-0 loss to MYPA.  Etchu Tabe went the full 90 minutes in KuPS’ 3-0 loss to TPS.  And Mason Trafford went the full 90 minutes in IFK Mariehamn’s 1-0 win over Haka.

In case you missed it on Wednesday, Josh Gatt assisted on Molde’s first goal in their 4-3 win over Rosenborg in the NM Cupen.  You can check out some highlights here.

And finally, some more new kits for the 2012-13 season.  I know he is the goalkeeper, but Neal Kitson’s Northampton Town have some new home and away kits.  And in the event Villyan Bijev goes back out on loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf next season, they also have some new home and away kits.  I like the red/home shirt.

Links and other things

If you haven’t heard yet (since you have been living under a rock), Clint Dempsey scored his 37th career Premier League goal earlier today (highlights here).  The goal gives him sole possession of first place on the all-time American goal-scoring list for the Premier League.  I did a whole Inside the Numbers on his then-36 Premier League goals last month and ESPN Stats and Info did their own random stat nuggets.

It was his third career goal against Liverpool, making them his fifth different team with 3+ goals against.  It was also his 22nd career Premier League goal at Craven Cottage.  It was also great watching him get pissed at Craig Bellamy.

It looks like Brad Guzan will get about a month to impress Aston Villa (and other teams) with Shay Given being ruled out a month with a hamstring tear.  In a perfect world, in my opinion, he does well and some teams come calling in January once Given returns.

Daryl and the guys over at The Total Soccer Show decided to watch Hoffenheim’s 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen last Friday and gave their thoughts on Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams on their most recent podcast.  It is worth a listen.  They also didn’t like how Leverkusen took their corners.

Yanks Abroad’s Clint Waddell caught up with Tyrone McCargo to talk about the U-23/U-20 camp from last month and his time so far this season at Nurnberg.

Brian Sciaretta also gives his thoughts on the USMNT as 2012 approaches, giving us players to watch rise/fall from the national team picture.

Juan Agudelo talked to US Soccer’s website about his time at VfB Stuttgart.  For those that forget, he is now in England training with Liverpool.

And finally, this one is for the rumorville, but I have heard from people that Blackburn might be taking a look at Robbie Rogers.  Then I found this article in a British paper online.  Rogers has been in Germany training with Kaiserslautern, but we shall see if this one has some legs in the next couple of weeks.

Friday morning news and links

Jemal Johnson will not be playing in Europa League this upcoming season.  After appearing in 14 games for Lokomotiv Sofia and clinching a Europa League spot in 2010-11, Johnson has decided to return to England and signed with League Two side Southend United.  Southend United’s website also has some quotes up from Johnson.

The UK’s News & Star has a nice story and quotes from Carlisle United’s manager Greg Abbott on Frank Simek.

Do we have a new candidate for First Great American Left Back?  It looks like Celtic’s Charlie Mulgrew is considering switching from Scotland to the US for his international career.  Mulgrew was born in Glasgow, but could play for the US via his grandparents.  But it also looks like he would prefer to play for Scotland, but is at least considering the US. (Update – Upon further review, I don’t think he would qualify via his grandparents as mentioned by people in the comments)

Greg Garza will not be at Estoril-merica next season as he is a free agent and no longer connected to Traffic Sports or Estoril.  I am not a huge fan of Traffic Sports, so I like this move by Garza.

Brian Sciaretta has a good preview on a few younger guys in Europe that we should keep an eye on for this upcoming season.  I swear Sciaretta knows the family tree of everyone in Germany.

With that said, Sciaretta has an interview up with Tyrone McCargo, a German-American left winger that will play with Nurnberg’s U-19 team this year.

And sticking with youth in Germany, it looks like Wolfsburg could be interested in Bobby Wood.  A lot of people are expecting big things out of Wood this season after appearing in five games with 1860 Munich’s senior team last season and playing well with the US U-20 team.

Finally, I am bored at work today, so I started this discussion up.  Come join us in the comments and give us your thoughts.
