Sakic Named To 13th NHL All-Star Game
Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic was named to the starting lineup for the Western Conference in the 2007 NHL All-Star Game, which will be played January 24 in Dallas. The starting lineups for this year's NHL All-Star Game were announced during the VERSUS telecast of the Avalanche and Red Wings game.
In 11 previous NHL All-Star contests, Sakic has amassed 18 points (6g/12a) and was named MVP in the 2004 All-Star Game in Minnesota with a three-goal effort performance. Sakic's first NHL All-Star appearance was on January 21, 1990 in Pittsburgh, the first of eight consecutive All-Star selections. He was selected to the 1997 NHL All-Star squad but did not play due to injury. Sakic's 18 career points in the All-Star Game rank fifth all-time behind Wayne Gretzky (25), Mario Lemieux (23), Mark Messier (20) and Gordie Howe (19).
Sakic has been named to participate in the NHL All-Star Game in 13 of his 15 seasons in which the game was played and has tallied points in nine of his previous 11 All-Star games.
