Just your standard commuter! Kevin Bacon inadvertently attracts attention to himself as he wears sunglasses to ride the subway

Most Hollywood megastars opt for private jets, limousines and plush sports cars as their favoured modes of transport.

But not Kevin Bacon, who proved just how down to earth he was by catching the subway around New York City with a carriage of commuters on Thursday.

Shunning a more glitzy mode of transport in favour of hanging out with the masses, the 55-year-old actor attempted to blend into the background as he headed out into the city for the day.

But the X-Men star inadvertently drew attention to himself by wearing a pair of dark shades as he attempted in vain to go incognito for his journey.

Sitting slumped down in his seat as he absent mindedly played on his phone, Bacon covered up even further in a grey beanie hat as he tried to go unnoticed for his immersion into the world of the general public.

While he stood out in his sunglasses, the actor's choice of clothing was relatively low-key, with him wrapping up in a big khaki coat, jeans and Converse trainers.

Bacon is by no means the only star to ride the Subway, with the likes of A-listers Madonna, Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes and Naomi Watts all previously papped on public transport.

In the past, the actor has claimed he rides the subway every day, and likes to while away the hours between stations by playing games on his mobile phone.

He told People magazine: 'I take the subway every day. It's the fastest way to get around the city. When I'm on the train, I play Solitaire, Angry Birds and Backgammon on my phone.'

But he admitted he likes being spotted on public transport as it means people are nicer to him.

He told The Observer: 'Fame is very much a double-edged sword. I had a prosthetic disguise made, because I wanted to see what it would be like not to be recognised

'I didn't like it very much - no one was nice to me. People didn't bother me, but they also looked right through me. Actors want to be famous.'

I do wonder why stars take the tube. Surely they are rich enough to go by taxi? I'd be highly displeased if I saw a star on the tube.

Kevin is from an "old blood" Philadelphia family...but he never acted like he was above anyone. He hasn't changed one bit...even after marrying into the snooty Sedgewick family.

Kevin is a class act, much like Mayor Ed Koch that rode the Subway with the rest of us regular folks! Well done sir:) I imagine if that was Kanye, it would've been a big scene though LOL
