I Do Not Apologize For Any Transformers Movies

It is a drag talking to reporters on sets. Why? Because often times they take your words and skew things to their liking. Then the crazy, lazy game of reporting on what other writers story’s reported me saying and suddenly it becomes skewed Internet truth. So I waste my time to restate exactly what I did say, again.

No I did not ‘apologize’ for any Transformers movies. I did not say I shot the last three movies “less cool” than the new fourth installment. I was talking specifically about camera style and tone, of the first movie compared to how I shot the new installment with a very big scale, cinematic style. I was very specific in saying the first Transformers was shot in a ‘generic suburbia’ area, not trying to be cool with any cinematic flashes. I wanted it to feel like this could happen in any backyard in the United States.

So that brings me to letting Transformers fans know that we have completed our five and half month shoot. We got back from a month long shoot in China. My crew and I had a fantastic time shooting in Hong Kong and Mainland China. It was an amazing experience, and I love the country. My cast was absolutely fantastic, and a very fun group to work with. We are working hard cutting the movie right now. I think the first piece comes out for the Super Bowl and a teaser right after that.

And yes, I’m very excited about this new movie.

Thanks Michael! I have absolutely loved your Transformers movies, they’ve been so fun, cool and amazing! My kids have loved them and my other family members have loved them. You’ve done such an awesome job revitalizing Transformers and have made it so fun to watch. I grew up watching it as a kid and couldn’t have imagined you turning it into this amazing spectacle that you did. For those who have hated on this…I’d love to see them do even one ounce of what you’ve accomplished in this franchise – it’s awesome! Thanks for putting in all the hard work, hours and hours of prep, shooting, editing and promoting. Fan boys may have a problem with it but how do you argue with 2.6 plus billion dollars…and that’s only from the theaters! Nuff said ;-) . Looking forward to this next one you’re putting together for us! Thanks again!

I hate reporters, just one gene either way and they are rapest or murderers. Nothing in print these days is NOT scewed to achieve an agenda…sad really. I’m really bummed Shia won’t be around. Most sequels without the original characters fall far short of what they could have been. I hope that’s not the case with TF4 but Shia was what made the the others work so well. No matter how it gets spun this one will feel very different for specifically that reason. I hope I am wrong but history says that’s a likely outcome. Here’s to changing history, I hope you have an ace in the hole puts it over the top.

Hey Michael I never really comment in public but I totally agree with your statement, I had a “blast” working with you this summer while you were at Design and I can not wait to see the movie.
